We’re at Bally’s next year. How can you pass an offer like that up?
Since most of the others who attended are doing it, I’ll throw in my impressions too:
techchick68: What can I say? Smart, charming, beautiful, and the starter of the the whole weekend!
beatle: The man is mad! You gotta like it!
Doctordec and his gambling buddy: In and out in next to no time, and I didn’t get a chance to talk to them.
Irishman: A little goofy (check the hat picture), a lot of fun.
Narile: A good talker, good fun.
padeye and Ann: Zyada and I had a nice breakfast and a great chat with them.
rjk: I’ll let others speak for me, since I’m so quiet and modest.
*Silo: Pretty cool ex-troll! Good to meet him.
Strainger: Stranger than just about anybody! Has a good time, and is willing to help others do so.
Zyada: Sweet, funny, and one hell of a dancer! The weekend wouldn’t have been the same without her!
I had so much fun last weekend, this weekend I am about to jump out of my skin from boredom! You guys are so much fun!!!
I have a few more pictures but waiting for Irishman to get his to me before I post them.
Irishman, go get those pictures developed!
Well, the working week is done; shouldn’t Strainger be showing up about now?
Hey! Who put my name with those pictures of that crazy bastard?? Such behavior among adults – I am appalled.
All right, everyone else has posted minutes so I’ll go ahead and post mine.
Friday: I left work early and headed up to Vegas. The trip took 5 1/2 hours, 2 of which was spent on Grand Ave between Phoenix and Sun City and 1 1/2 of which was spent on Las Vegas Blvd between Tropicana Ave and the Imperial Palace hotel (well, that’s what it seemed like). I pulled into the Imperial Palace hotel drive, and proceeded to drive about another 5 miles to the parking garage; I was seriously wondering if I was in the right place. I was, and so I carried a load of my stuff to the check-in desk – about 4 1/2 miles from where I parked. On the way to check-in, I saw an old man with a walker fall down on his back on an escalator. By the time I got over there, at least one person had gone to his aid but the escalator was running and people were yelling for someone to shut it off. Heroically, I squatted down, reached underneath the railing near the floor, and hit the emergency stop button. As I was doing so, another guy yelled “Get out of the way!” and proceeded to almost take off my head as he jumped over me. As I stood up, I saw that the old man was standing and appeared to be OK. He was also surrounded by a crowd of hotel/casino workers so I went on my way. I checked in and hauled everything to my room. Upon my arrival to my room, I noticed I had a message already. I checked it and was informed by a hotel operator that a “Mr. Vito is in room 1051.” Curious as to who the hell “Mr. Vito” was, I proceeded to press her about it, asking if it was indeed a “Mr. Vito” and if I was the one for whom the message was intended. She responded with an insisting “yes” to these questions so I just thanked her and hung up, puzzled. After getting settled in my room I went down to the payphone and called techchick. She told me that she and Silo were in her room so I went up to meet them. After a while, Irishman and beatle showed up. Beatle asked me if I had gotten his message, to which I responded, “Ooohh! It was beatle, not Vito!” Eventually rjk showed up followed by Narile (or was it the other way around?) After chit-chatting and getting to know each other, we went to grab dinner at the Teahouse. A few of us ordered Heinies with our meals and I discovered that the Keno crayons may be used to write on human flesh (see pictures). We then went down to the casinos and sort of split up there. After losing about $3 playing nickel video-poker and nickel blackjack, I went looking for the other Dopers. Unable to find them, I went back to my hotel room and went to sleep with two pillows under my head (I used two pillows at the other hotel too. Is there a Nevada law stating that hotel pillows shall not be more than 1/2" thick??).
Saturday: Deciding that it might still be a little early and not wanting to wake anyone up, I got up without calling anyone and went down to the pool. After deciding that the pool was too cold for this Arizona boy, I got into the hot tub and finished waking up. Upon my return to my room, I had a message saying, to quote the telephone operator, “Yes, you have a message from Liz saying ‘Her room. 7:30.’” I then tried calling techchick’s and beatle and Irishman’s rooms (the only last names/room numbers I knew), but they weren’t there. So, I went off on my own and explored the North part of the strip, checking out the Venetian, then coming back down the other side of the street and hitting the Frontier, Caesar’s Palace, and the Bellagio. I walked through some other places as well, but these are the only ones I remember. I also checked out the Auto Collection, which I strongly recommend to anyone who is staying at the Imperial Palace and can get free passes. After I got back, I called techchick, who was finally back in her room, and went up to hang out for a while until the party started. You’ve already seen and heard plenty about the party so I’ll leave out details. I will say that I got more pizza than anyone else – nyah nyah. As you can see, I had a good time. I got a kick out of seeing a guy in a coat, tie, and boxers have a serious conversation about the stock market. It was the craziest party I’ve been to in a while.
Sunday: You’ve already read about the bus breaking down and our ride on top of the Stratosphere. I will state that I got more of a rush riding that thing than I did a couple of years ago when I rode it; probably because it was daylight and I had a better perspective of where I was. Dinner at the Pink Taco was fun. I really wanted to eat a pink taco, but they put black beans in theirs and I don’t like black beans in my tacos. We went back to techchick’s room and chit-chatted a while. It was a lot more mellow than the previous night’s festivities. We said our good-byes to everyone who was leaving that night or early the next morning.
Monday: Most of the remaining dopers met for breakfast at the Teahouse. We said the rest of our good-byes there. I packed up my stuff, gave techchick a ride to the airport and checked out of my room. I still had 3 hours before I could check in the hotel where I was staying for the business portion of my trip, so I put my stuff in my truck and watched baseball and Canadian Football in the sports betting area. I found myself dozing off a few times; it had been a very active weekend.
I had a great time getting to know everybody! What a great group of people. Those of you who didn’t come really missed out. I’ll probably post some more to this thread later, but I’m out of time for now.
Strainger said:
Now I feel bad…I should have told you to meet us somewhere at some time.
I thought everyone knew my last name.
Oh yeah, Silo. Although I’m not sure I knew your last name at the time I was calling or not. Regardless, you would’ve been out of your room and with everyone else I was trying to call.
Don’t feel bad, techchick. I had a good time and didn’t mind wandering around by myself for a while. I do wish I had wandered south instead of north; I later saw a nifty rock wall down that way that I would’ve liked to climb. Plus, I might have met up with y’all.
I think everyone was pretty well described earlier in this thread by the other posters. I’m willing to bet that Padeye, a good friend IRL, is probably a little leery about hanging out with me now!
Speaking of Padeye, why hasn’t he posted to this thread yet?
Pssssst, Irishman, where are those pics?
Picture update: I dropped off the film Sunday and said to have them developed and put them on CD for me. I thought they would be done today, but they weren’t.
I should be able to get them and send them to Techchick by this weekend.
Cool Irishman, I will keep an eye open for them (please send them to my AOL address) but I will be out of town this weekend so I wouldn’t be able to get to them til next week.
Sorry sorry to post so late to this but the Vegas Dopefest was a blast. Ann and I had a wonderful time and I apologize for not being involved in more of the group activities. I just want to know how Techchick got some fatass bastard to dress like me for photos. Fuck! I have to start going back to the gym. Sheesh, my hat was in more photos than I was.
Ann took more photos but hasn’t developed them yet so I can just present the few digital photos I took. I have some more on video but my Snappy capture device is loaned out right now. The quality isn’t great as my dirt cheap, one step above a “Barbie’s first digital camera” isn’t as good as Techchick’s Olympus.
Baoops! I bumped a thread.
Hi everyone. Just a little note to let you know I’m back. I sent some pics to Techchick, and if she’ll clean out her inbox, I’ll send some more. (Should be 5 messages. Tell me if you get them all.)
Yeah, I know, took me long enough. I was just building anticipation. (Yeah, that’s what I was doing.)
Kiet…I mean Irishman…send them to my AOL account, I only get 1 MB per mailbox on my domain…
Since they wanna delete threads, this is one that I don’t wanna see on the chopping block.
So, Ed Zotti, please leave this one alone, pretty please. I wish I had the cash and the time to do another WorldWide Vegas Dopefest this year but I don’t. If anyone cares to follow in my footsteps and needs tips on how to bring people together in Vegas from around the country and in our case, the world, please email me. It was a blast to put together and even more fun to go to.
BTW, check out the pics, I know you will drool with anticipation over such a fun time.
In honor of Wally
:wally
I forgot to add, the pics are now located at:

TC,
The thread was safe, it was posted to last year. I regret there is no party this year, I’ve never been to Vegas. Next time you throw one, lemme know, I’ll come out there and get corrupted.
[sub] OK, who’s the smartass who said “Too late”? [/sub]
