Vent your spleen thread

Try living where I live, in Quebec. I’m a member of the English-speaking minority in a place where many signs have both English and French, French being the dominant language. I’m grateful when the language of the minority (my language, English,) is present on signs as well as French. (Even though I do understand french.)

Oh dear Og no. It’s easy to get shunted into one of these lanes because traffic is solid in both lanes and now you’re BEHIND someone who is terrified of concrete walls. You’re now trapped with no other option but to follow them.

I still remember years ago getting behind some clod who drove WAY under the speed limit on a double line road. eventually the car behind would pass against the double line out of frustration and Mr Clod would then blare his horn at them. oooffff… rrrrrr… !#W$%$$#$^^&&

Maybe they would have appreciated and benefited from some signs and forms in Gaelic. Government agents and business owners were notorious for using immigrants’ unfamiliarity with English to mistreat them or rope them into unfavorable contracts.

I could do without this creeping trend towards putting news stories into Buzzfeed-esque lists. “Five Reasons The VA Election Matters”, “Three Things To Know About Healthcare.gov”, “Six Facts About Syria’s Chemical Weapons”, etc. It’s as though people can’t keep up with a six paragraph article unless its enumerated. And, if that’s the case, I’m also tired of people who can’t keep up with a six paragraph article unless its enumerated.

See, it’s people like youse guys who force people like me to drink more in order to keep Big Liquor happy. Hope you’re happy!

This is not an attitude to be proud of. Just because immigrants were treated poorly decades ago doesn’t mean they should be treated poorly evermore. How would we ever end any form of oppression if everyone had this mentality?

If losing her arm in a textile mill was good enough for my grandmother, I don’t see why today’s seven year olds should be any different

I must shop and queue behind morons. The people ahead of me who want to use credit and/or eftpos invariably cannot remember the PIN or choose a card which is signature not PIN. Or choose a card which has expired, so they have to dig out another one. And then they choose one, the use of which takes them over their limit so they have to choose another one.

So, yes, credit/eftpos can be swift. In my experience, though, it is seldom so.

When I travel outside the US, I’m grateful for things like road signs with English translation. Just sayin.

Same here in Quebec, as I described above.

As an aside: If this thread devolves into arguing, we’ll all know why ordinarily, mini-rants threads go in the Pit.

oui mademoiselle!
