Ventura, CA gun-owners, recommend a firing range

I’ve recently decided that I want to learn how to shoot. I looked around online to find firing ranges that provide classes, and I found two relatively close to Santa Barbara, both in Ventura county.

Shooters Paradise of Oxnard

I also found the Ventura Shooting Range, but it appears that it’s no longer open to the public. There may be others, but I didn’t find them in a quick Google search.

I’m looking to take a beginning handgun lesson. I don’t have any of my own equipment, and don’t want to buy it until I get some practice and decide if this is something I want to do long term, so I’m looking for a place that will rent me the gun, any necessary protective equipment, and sell me ammo on site. A variety of handguns to rent and practice with would also be nice, but isn’t necessary to start. I’d love to hear any experiences people have had with these or other nearby ranges, especially with respect to their beginners instruction.

Thanks.

The outdoor shooting range is closed? That’s a damn shame. That was a fun place to shoot the couple of times that I went there.

Shooters Paradise probably will fill all of your needs. You can take classes and the people there will be happy to help if you explain things to you if that you’re a newbie. They’ll have plenty of guns, ammo, targets and protective equipment to buy and rent.

In college a couple of my roommates went down to a place in Camarillo I think to try some shooting. Ended up shooting a Desert Eagle (at like $10.00 a shot). That’s probably a bit of a trek, though on any kind of regular basis.

Personally I’m on a mission to see if I can go my entire life without ever shooting a weapon. I’m a little over a 1/4 of the way there.
