Venture Bros. 9/10

Oh crap, this is funny! “You can have anyone in the secretarial pool except the one that smells like this.” “Yeah, Phyllis, I’ll take that blowjob now.” “She tried to free Nelson Mandela under the table.” “He just blacked out during a handjob.”

Whacked out.

Uh, no pun intended.

I just didn’t think this episode was all that funny.

This one didn’t wow me. The obvious Manchurian Candidate references, capped off by Lincoln actually mentioning the movie, should have made me laugh but just kind of didn’t. “Free Nelson Mandela” was a hilarious euphemism.

Did anybody else think Mrs. Manstrong had a very familiar profile?

Yes, I am saying I think she looks a lot like Lady Au Pair/Etheria/Dr. Girlfriend. She seems to have the same nose and lips when she scowls.

And Bud has her voice! Just, you know, without the Jersey accent.

I also thought that Bud looked a bit like Brock. But maybe they’re just supposed to be the Agency ‘type.’

“Oh, no! Little man get brain vein!”

Didja notice who the other Dr. Venture was banging? (Oh, when I read this news story I couldn’t help but be reminded of a Venture Bros. episode. )

This one was good, but not great. The Ghost of Lincoln was not as funny as the concept sounds. But hey, I was thoroughly entertained. Plus, I’ve noticed that this season’s episodes are better the second time you watch them. And the team are clearly trying to push the boundaries of the show with every episode.

One question: how did everyone read the epilogue? I was a little confused by it.

Everybody (Dr. Venture, Brock, Hank and Dean, and their new pal the ghost of Abraham Lincoln) was just enjoying a nice little gabfest, dishing about Bud Manstrong’s masturbatory habits. Seems the Spirit of our 16th President knew quite well that Rusty wasn’t really in a position to mock anyone else, in that regard.

Meanwhile, the old houskeeping lady was using club soda to remove the force field (that really is remarkable stuff).

I was underwhelmed by this episode. But only in comparison to their others. It sill made me laugh.

Was the president a conflation of Clinton and LBJ? Now that’s scary.
