Venture Bros 9/24

All I could think of during the fight sequence with Dr Girlfriend and the Black Guards, was, “Man, she’s totally hot until she opens her mouth.”

So, the boys are really 19, but can’t seem to make it past their 16th birthday. Wonder if we’re going to see more of Dr. Henry Killinger?

I’m surprised she didn’t pop 24 for that move he pulled.

The Monard certain seems to have taken his show to a new level. He leveled his accountant’s place.

I hope not. He was hysterically funny for one appearance, I think seeing more of him would kill the joke.

I am entertained that everyone is almost competant on the show lately. Dr. Venture is actually making devices that kind of work. The Monarch was almost a credible threat in that introduction. Being almost competant with dramatic failings is a hell of a lot funnier than completely useless. They’re really striking all the right notes with season two…

So what was the deal with the Japanese demon that was tied to Dr. Venture? Why didn’t it ever get exorcised?

Brock: “I’ll go find the boys. Story of my life.”

Explained in the snip after the closing credits - Dr. Killenger sent it to Dr. Venture in a (failed) attempt to reunite him with Myra.

I agree. I like The Monarch’s new attitude, and I liked Dr. Girlfriend’s surprising turn as a killing machine. This episode was sort of a weird grab bag, but the funny parts were really funny.

Brock almost let the cat out of the bag to the boys. Close.

Myra was quite the hottie in her flashback. No surprise why Rusty tapped that back in the day.

Fern, Which move did 24 pull that should have gotten him popped? I missed a few parts.

24 grabbed himself some Dr. Girlfriend boob. I agree; she should’ve snapped his hand off.

I like the costumes the elite guard wore- resembled something the Cobra organization would wear. It was also neat to see Dr. Girlfriend kick so much ass.

I’m a little disappointed they didn’t have a fight scene between Myra and Brock, seeing as they were both OSI operatives. Though the way Brock got in the car was awesome.

So what was in Henry Killenger’s bag? Just nice things? At the end he pulled out a bunch of flowers and Monarch’s journal- made me wonder just what the hell that bag was full off…

“It seems my floating umbrella is stuck to something…I require assistance…”

“Close” only because they’re dumb as a box of hammers. The fact that they’ve lost 2-3 years makes me wonder about the timeline of the cloning procedure, which I don’t think was discussed this season. Does it take a few months each time? Did Venture have to invent the cloning machine? And this is the one I’m really wondering about: are there some times when he said “screw it, why do I even need these kids?” leading to a longer delay before their return?

I may be remembering incorrectly, but wasn’t that how this season started? He wasn’t exactly saying “screw it,” but he was traumatized by their deaths and had disappeared for a while, right?

Like all magical murder bags, it contains anything that its owner needs to pull out of it. See Felix the Cat and Mary Poppins for other examples.

I remember now. Wasn’t it accidental? Or was it “Accidental?” Either way, Dr. Girlfriend is amazingly tolerant. Which is good considering her dating history.

I wonder if Dr. Orpheus’ team will be getting any more air time?

Molotov would never let Brock hit a woman other than herself. She would destroy Myra all by herself. What a fight that would be.

Great episode! I can’t wait to watch it again. My only gripe is that it looks like Dr. Girlfriend is going to get back with The Monarch. I wanted her to go solo.

Yeah, the helmet’s especially looked very similar to the Battle Android Troopers (B.A.T.)

My question is this, What demographic are they going for here? Seems to me at least mid-30’s because younger than that will not get the Kissinger/Killinger reference.

Great show. I loved Helper quoting Maya Angelou. and 24 misquoting Sic Semper Tyranus as Semper Fidelis Tyrannosauras. Ha!

My 26 year-old cousin thinks VB is the best show on TV, and [AS]'s viewership is predominantly mid-20s to mid-30s, so obviously their demo is a little elastic. You don’t have to get every joke to have a good time with it. (I think every episode of MST3K has at least one joke I never get.)

My husband and I are both 29 and we got the Kissinger reference just fine.

The adult swim audience is geekier than average, and you’re overestimating how old you need to be to know a little about the Nixon years. His administration has to be covered in high school history classes by now. Futurama has done some Kissinger humor, too, and had Richard Nixon as an occasionally recurring character. They even had Agnew in there one time - although I bet the Futurama audience is even geekier than the rest of the adult swim audience. (I’m 24 myself.) I mean, Family Guy is nothing but references to TV shows, and its viewers are often too young to have actually seen them. It’s still popular.

I would certainly rate this as one of the better episodes of the season; not quite as great as “Victor Echo November” or “Hate Floats”, but good. Deduct a few points for Henry Killinger, which got pretty old pretty fast; now that he’s served his purpose, I hope he’s gone. OTOH, Myra quoting Spandau Ballet in her crazy rant to the boys was a note of pure genius…

IMHO the season overall has paid off on the potential of the first season, especially concerning the Monarch vs. Venture storyline. Just Some Guy’s comments about the growing competence of these two are exactly right; they are becoming more interesting/funnier the more you can take them seriously (to a point).

If I have two minor quibbles, it is the following:
[ul]
[li]When Doc Hammer et al. try and deal with the “leftovers” from season 1 (Dr. Impossible, Baron Unterbheit), it almost never comes off well. Getting Unterbheit to marry Dean was just a stupid, stupid plotline, and “20 Years to Midnight” was probably the worst episode this season (OTOH, “Assassinanny 911” wasn’t too bad, maybe because there was a real relationship there to explore).[/li][li]Some of the bathroom humor is getting a bit shopworn and forced. Myra pressing her breasts against the boy’s faces to feed them was just embarassing (though, like others, I loved seeing 24 cop a feel, and his comment after ripping a stinker was priceless: “I’ve been holding that in for 2 hours!”). [/li][/ul]

Overall though, I like what they’re doing; any news on Season 3?
