Venture Bros. News!

Some good, some bad. Everything seems to be ticking along nicely according to Publick’s blog, with at least a couple of the episodes being in HD. (There’s even some stills from the future episodes on the blog.) However, Stephen Colbert just went down several notches in coolness with this bit of news

Dude, that’s just wrong.

Fair enough, I guess. If he doesn’t have time now, that’s understandable. But if he ever does Harvey Birdman again, I’ll consider boycotting The Colbert Report. The Venture Brothers is a far more worthy project!

I doubt he’ll do Harvey Birdman again. For one thing, they killed all the characters voiced by Colbert. And for another thing, the series is over. Well, okay, he did get the very last line of the series. Ha ha ha! Last laugh!

Doh! :smack: Guess I haven’t been keeping up with my Adult Swim. Thanks for spoiling the ending! Oh, well, I wasn’t looking forward to my Colbert boycott anyway.

Phil Ken Sebben, who was voiced by Colbert, (and uttered the “Ha ha ha! Last laugh.” line) was not killed off. It was Birdman, played by Gary Cole, who perished, but Phil indicated that he could be cloned from his DNA. But yes, the series is indeed over.

I’ll put spoiler tags around this even though it aired last summer.

Phil was hit by a bus in an earlier episode. And then they introduced his brother, Bill. Bill looked just like Phil, prompting everybody at the office to shout “Phil’s back!” with one voice adding “Stephen’s back!!” Then he opened his mouth to speak, and of course, it wasn’t Stephen at all. Bill remained, which added another layer of humor to the last line.

Sigh. All right, I’ll do it.

Spoilered as well:
The way I recall the final episode (and I don’t have it recorded, unfortunately) was that Phil survived being run into by the bus. When it reached its final destination somewhere in Canada, Phil hijacked it and drove it (backwards) back to his office, where he crashed into Harvey and smashed him right against a wall.

Also, according to IMDB, Stephen Colbert is indeed listed in the credits as playing Phil. He returned for the final episode.
