It’s On at 11:30 tonight, or available on the Adult Swim website now. Another great ep. from Doc Hammer and Jackson Public. I’ll keep it spoiler free, except to say: “Your powers are useless on me, you silly-billy.”
I’m also trying to rid myself of Stinkin’ Thinkin’ und Dilly Dallying.
God I love Dr. Killinger!
Excellent; better than the season opener IMHO ( which wasn’t bad either ).
I’m kind of hoping the whole thing was part of his plan to get Dr. Venture’s life back together. Dr. Killinger doesn’t strike me as the type who would make a misstep like offering Venture supervillainy when he wouldn’t take it.
I think Killingers opinion of Rusty is pretty accurate. Dr. Venture has all the earmarks of super villainy. Weak, low self-esteem, huge daddy-issues, access to super science. And now, what respect he did have from the family name has been stolen by his brother. Sounds like a classic origin story for a super-baddy.
Right- it actually fits Rusty’s character very well. He’s not a good guy in any way, most of the time. He’s petty and selfish and generally amoral, so I thought having him tempted into considering it was absolutely great. And for whatever reason he resisted the idea. I think I would have been fine with it if he made an effort for an episode or two before quitting, but maybe it would have made him unredeemably jerkish.
The IDEA of supervillainy might seem to fit his character, but it’s obviously too much work. Pretty much any amount of work is too much for Rusty, which is why he’s in such bad shape.
Agreed. A half-assed effort at supervillainy might’ve been very funny, but then again, it would have been very hard to explain why Jonas Jr. or Brock didn’t kill him if he tried.
And this is my magic murder bag.
I hope that AS sends us this season as a Christmas gift this year. We’ve already gotten the other seasons, some Sealab and a few others shows that skip my mind at present. Venture Brothers is one of the best cartoons on TV these days and I’d rather not have to pay money to own the sucker.
Wow. Great one. Much better than the season premiere.
I walking Rusty up to the brink of super-villany is ultimately funnier than taking him over the top and then bringing him back, if for no other reason than the nude shot at the end of the episode.
Rusty seems to be slowly gaining some competency over the series. In the first season, he was pretty much a complete and utter failure, having created nothing new and living entirely off the coattails of dad. In the second season, he began showing a little bit of actual ability. Notably, he makes that forcefield thing and the walking eye. This episode seems to indicate that over the course of this season, Rusty might actually become something of a good guy? Still an unrepentant jackass, of course, but perhaps he will embrace the role of “super-scientist hero?” Seems like a potentially interesting development.
I’m pretty sure that the city-destroying Ooooo ray, from the pilot episode, was his own invention.
Nah, there’s no comedic value in it.
We can expect him to be a jealous, pill popping third-rate hack, because that’s where the jokes come from. Hank and Dean are the wide eyed, virtuous hero types, and their ignorance and do-gooder nature plays off the foil of their father’s greed and sloth. Brock is the resident uber mensch and wouldn’t serve much of a purpose if Rusty got a utility belt and started fighting crime.
It would be funny if Rusty started trying a failing to fight crime.
I don’t know why, but I thought it was really moving when Killinger offered the contract, and Rusty was stricken by the notion that he could actually be a bad person.
“You have a Puerto Rico department?”
I’m intrigued more than ever by the similarities between The Monarch, who isn’t even really a villain at this point, and Rusty, who nearly was. Maybe Dr. Killinger’s plan is to bring these two Venture brothers - because I still think they’re related somehow - closer together.
This is one I’m saving for a good D&D game where I make my save against a nasty spell. Of course, only one other person at the table watches VB, so it will go straight over their heads. Alas.
I liked this episode a lot, mostly because Dr. Henry Killinger is such a great character. I also loved the “Venture family” playing all the different parts to make Venture Industries seem like a great place to do business with.
Publicks blog has a big portrait of various new character designs. I like to see them appearing in various places. For instance, Hank is shown wearing some kind of huge gun and now I know why.
