Was this actually part of season 6 or a one-off between-season thing?
Interesting reset for much of the show. Looks like the setting may be moving to New York. Still no revelation about that photo of the Monarch and Rusty playing together.
I’ve been hoping someone would start a Venture Brothers thread. Great episode. I’m pretty sure that it was a one- off, given that Amazon is listing it as season 0, along with the Halloween special and the Shallow Gravy mocumentery. Be sure to go to the Adult swim website or youtube to view a short epilogue that sets up next season.
The thing that wows me is that they took the plot points that seemed like they were going to be the focus of season six and completely destroyed them, leaving the story arc as anyone’s guess.
The Halloween special actually was part of Season 5 though.
I was actually hoping they would end up with Spider Skull Island and the show return to adventuring plots. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this show, but I think it’s getting a little to self-referential.
Reset button is right. Wow. On the other hand, it’s interesting how little will change as a result of all this, with the one glaring exception of the new Venture HQ.
It’s been so damn long since the last season, I’m not sure if the questions it raised for me were just things I don’t recall or if this special takes place after stuff that takes place in next season.
Why is the Monarch moving to his childhood home? Did the hive get destroyed?
Didn’t Gary quit henching for the Monarch?
What happened to the Monarchs other henchmen?
What happened to the murderous moppets?
I think Dr. Girlfriend joined the council of 13 in the last season, am I remembering correctly?
I did notice Colbert voiced the stretch guy again, that was cool.
The cocoon and his house in Malice got destroyed by Hatred (Vatred?) after the moppets tricked him into thinking Gary had betrayed him when they tried to rescue Dr. Venture.
Gary started henching again when he realized he was happiest just taking orders and not caring about the cause.
I assume they got blown up, or left due to lack of supervillain lair.
Dragged away to an uncertain fate by the henchmen when Gary accused them of killing 24. “Hench must never kill hench”
Some have been speculating that Vendata (fka Venturion) is the Monarchs father and that he was cyborged after the plane crash in the Jersey Pine Barrens that orphaned the young Monarch. I’m wondering if this will be addressed this season. Venturion was created from “a Venture Industries employee” who worked in that field. So that could explain the mysterious photo of the two boys playing.
Well, we have Dean earning his father’s respect and becoming a Super Scientist (or really becoming comfortable with the idea himself). I half expect he’ll be the person who runs things behind the scene and keeps his father from destroying JJ’s company.
Hank I can see running his own store/commissary in the NY HQ.
Dunno how they bring Dermott into it, except maybe as an employee of Hank.
Had this on my DVR, just got around to watching it. I think I need to re-watch some of the last season episodes and then watch this again. I’ve forgotten a lot during the break. I was hoping they’d address Dermot dropping the “Dad” bomb on Rusty. And I agree with Push You Down, I think Rusty and the Monarch are brothers as well.
I loved this show and I loved the episode. I am continually in awe of how much Hammer and Publick can pack into a single episode, and yeah, half the time I have to rewatch previous shows or hit Wikipedia to remind myself where everything is.
I’ll admit it, I thought they were going to bump off Dr. Mrs. the Monarch. And I would’ve been PISSED.
