all jokes aside (And, yes I saw the sarcasm tags) …is the OP angry that someone is trying to encourage kids to go out and try new things? I’ve heard some of the verb commercials on the radio and I think they’re neat. It gives equal time to sports, the arts, cooking…anything that keeps a child away from the fucking t.v. for a second or two.
Yeah. We should fight obesity by teaching them how to cook!

It’s my understanding that it’s also to keep them off drugs. It’s part of the anti-drug movement as well.
And learning how to cook correctly WILL prevent obesity.
So there are ads on the buses too. That’s something I haven’t seen. This is one hell of a big campaign. I wonder how much this is costing me, the taxpayer?
The OP is a cynical motherfucker with a huge goddam chip on his shoulder. Nice to meet you, jarbabyj.
- Gather ingredients
- Combine ingredients
- Apply heat
- Wait
- Stuff your fat fuckin’ face
Hmmmm…
Maybe there’s a reason they didn’t pick me to teach that course at the Learning Annex.
jarbabyj, this is to help kids stay away from drugs, too?
What about verbs like toke?
[chortle]
“Toke. It’s what you do.”
[/chortle]
I know I’m being an old crotchedy bitch here…but I just think it’s really sad when the two ten year olds I know do NOTHING but play video games and sit around the house when not in school. Their parents think it’s an easy way to keep an eye on them, and meanwhile, there’s so much cool stuff in the world they’re missing!
I grew up and we’d get home from school, put on our play clothes and not come in until my mom was screaming from the porch…
If this program can make getting off your lazy ass and ‘doing something’ cool, then I’m all for it.
Oh, I agree. I just don’t think this is gonna do it. It strikes me as kind of hilarious the way they’re trying to force “cool” into something that is inherently not cool. What was that meeting like?
“What are we gonna do about this child obesity problem?”
“How about an advertising campaign with a grammatical theme? Kids like grammar!”
“Okay, but we need a website with bad animation. And a script that produces nonsense words like fundersplit and xyrate. We have to appeal to the critical ‘possessed by the devil’ demographic.”
And the conceptual link they’re trying to form between verbs and exercise is just stupid. It’s just another contrived layer of abstraction. cuauhtemoc pronounces it “Lame All Around”.
I agree with big -C. jarbabyj, settle down. While I can’t speak for others, I commend public programs that wish to better the livelyhood of children who know nothing more than video games, I just think dislike advertising gimmicks such as this and “m-life” that blast you from all directions to peak your interest but don’t tell you what they are.
Just to get you curious enough to go looking.
Honestly, though I’ve seen and heard these ads for months, I had no idea what they were about until I read this thread.
I thought it was just some cutesy thing like “Schoolhouse Rock.”
Every time I saw a commercial for it, I would expect to see a new one proclaiming, “Noun. It’s what you are.”
It makes it hard to take it seriously.
I’m not sure I was “riled up” Gorgon, but fair enough.
I guess I’m double-whooshed- who’s “Lembeck”? A Charles in Charge reference?
[sub]and since we’re on the subject of verbs, it’s “pique”![/sub]
Aw, you know it, Mojo! At least I didn’t call you “Potsie”. And… uh, what’s this about “pique”?
OG VERB!
[sub]Sorry, really sorry. I just had to get that out of my system.[/sub]
I’m thinking that’s not a verb, but you know, if you could make it into one, I’m sure the explanation would be interesting.
Atreyu … I don’t have the words to express my delight …
cuauhtemoc, the pique thing was in reference to gorgon heap’s post.
Oh, I see it now.
Read! It’s what you do!

“Mom, today I’ve chosen to disseminate then me and Tommy are going to go consolidate.”
More here than meets the eye, babies. One of the corporate sponsors of this is McDonalds. Obviously American kids don’t get enough exercise, but fast food is a pretty hefty culprit as well.
