Remember when Dean O’Dell helped kidnap Richard Grieco and steal his bone marrow? If that’s the way the Dean did business, he might have a whole list of enemies missing various kidneys or corneas or whatever!
I doubt it was any of the Lilith House girls. That just seems to obvious, with the constant egging and spitting. The cheating wife might have motive, or maybe Professor Sleazo decided to off the Dean using Veronica’s “Perfect Murder” plan. I don’t know why he would bother though.
I read that the second MOTS which we now know to be the Dean’s killing was heavily inspired by the movie Bubble. So you can try to keep that in mind as this unfolds. Maybe there isn’t much of a great motive involved.
Your larger point is well-taken, but the S1 climax isn’t an example of it. When she discovered Aaron had stowed away in the LeBaron, she crashed it, which is just what she should have done. Then she ran to the nearest house and hid all three tapes, which is also what she should have done.
After that the situation was taken beyond her control.
The only suspect I can see with a material gain is the professor who is sleeping with the Dean’s wife. He could gain the wife, who possibly will get some life insurance money.
The other suspects merely have a grudge against him.
Although the Dean announced publicly that he would vote to keep the greeks, maybe he didn’t get a chance to officially make that vote yet - maybe the committe hasn’t convened yet - and his death would keep that from happening.
I was actually thinking it might be a suicide, given that O’Dell’s been such a constant target of animosity and humiliation. But it would be pretty cheeky for the show to set up a murder mystery, then reveal that, no, it was just a suicide after all. Still, something to “put on the board.”
I had wondered if it was Patty Hearst’s character. After all she went through to vote ‘no’ on the Greek’s, it’d be annoying to have it overturned. Other than that, it doesn’t make sense for her to do it, so I expect to be wrong.
If you were Veronica would you call Sheriff Dumbass? Even in a drugged stupor she’s smarter than relying on that tool for anything.
But the more serious answer is that she was calling from Moe’s cellphone so that her dad would have the number, so Keith could use the cell phone tracker to find Mercer and Moe (remember them from vaudeville?) later.
Actually, I think this may be the first time someone died in Neptune when Weevil won’t be considered a suspect. I’m sure Weevil will report his find immediately, and that should absolve him. Then again, Sherriff Numbnuts might decide to be suspicious anyway. But it would be a stretch.
