Hilarious episode! This has really been the best third season episode so far.
My wife and I have been dying watching this one.
I’m wondering if the decision to end the season with stand alone episodes won’t be such a bad decision after all. It’s fun to watch Veronica solve mysteries she’s not involved in.
Yeah… great episode, and it hasn’t even been any kind of a traditional mystery. I’ve lost track of how many twists and turns the plot has been through already!! And not all funny… that ‘secrets and intimacy’ scene between V and Logan was oddly touching. (I’m not the hugest V/L shipper around here.)
Definitely wasn’t expecting that cliffhanger on the current commercial. (quarter to the hour.)
I missed a few minutes when the dog had to go out and pee. Last week’s previews had Ronnie saying to Logan that she’d never be able to forgive something. Did that scene happen this week? What was she talking about? They were still lovey-dovey at the end.
Agreed. When Ronnie pulled out the boombox for her dad when he was dressing as a shefiff’s deputy and then coached him on the appropriate pelvic thrust, I nearly plotzed. True story.
I’m wondering exactly what (if anything) was the PLAN part of the ‘blackmail judgey’ plan, instead of a reflex action that Veronica was doing because she was in trouble. Was she expecting the judge to complain to the pimp, and the pimp to put the squeeze on them? Or was there another part of the plan after she picked up the money??
Madison was in a few episodes in season 1 and lots of season 2. She’s probably best known as the originator of Veronica’s “Trip to the dentist”
She also showed up in some surveillance photos at the Grand kanoodling with Sheriff Lamb, leading to the single greatest sight gag in the history of the show, the mock Lamb for Sheriff poster with the campaign slogan “18 - It’s Legal!”
I thought the blackmail plan would have worked better if they just forgot about picking up the money.
Let the judge know he’s been outed and let him complain to the pimp, but don’t bother to pick up the money and let the judge and the pimp wonder about who knows their business and what they might do next.
No, and that really pissed me off. Last week’s preview gave the impression that the chick Logan hooked up with on the beach was actually a hooker (presumably arranged for/paid for by Dick, who wanted to help Logan get out of his post-Veronica rut). OK, fine, pull a fast one. I don’t appreciate a misleading preview, but I’ll deal. But they showed a clip of Ronnie saying that she’d never be able to forgive something - a scene that wasn’t in this ep. That goes past the line for me.
But (usually) the creators of a show have no control over the teasers the ad people at the network spew out. So I’m not letting this fraud turn me off VM. It really was an excellent episode: “I fin-all-y got the fiii-le on the Deeeeeeen!”
Nothing tops the Gilmore Girls teaser from last season with the voiceover of “A shocking a Gilmore family secret revealed.” over a scene of Richard Gilmore looking pensive at Lorelai’s door.
No secret was revealed or even mentioned.
I thought the black mail plot was ridiculous and way below Veronica’s intelligence. Blackmail of a judge gets you in PRISON. PMITA Prison.
Although it was realistic how things ended with the nerd and the hooker that’s how I expected it to go from the get-go. You couldn’t have them actually try to work out? Maybe have the guy able to come to terms with it?
There has been a tendency for promos to show events from beyond just the next episode. Fer instance Fox has been running promos showing someone running along the top of a moving train and that hasn’t happened yet. I can’t get mad about promos since I don’t base my decisions about watching on them.
In fact I was out of the room for this week’s promo. I thought I heard the words I’m pregnant but I have no idea who might have said them.
I’m at work right now, so I don’t have too much time to type out a long response, but I just wanted to say it before I forget by the end of the day.
I agree that blackmailing a judge is way below Veronica. Not in terms of morality, because we’ve seen her do some pretty shady things, but definitely didn’t think it through. Just because she uses Max’s phone, she think she’s protected from the consequences??? Like the pimp said, it was a girl’s voice!!! (Also, I find it endearing that it was Logan this time who tried to stop her from doing something stupid, not the other way around.)
Given the past history of the show introducing key clues subtly, I wonder if the judge will have anything to do with the story arc, or maybe the next one. It’s something worth keeping an eye on, since almost no one in the Veronica Mars universe is mentioned without cause, especially since there was quite a few details given about the judge (corrupted, voted in by the Neptune population despite the corruption, kinky preferences, yields enough power for the pimp to step in herself and take care of things…) just something to keep in mind.
The dumbest thing about the blackmail idea, to me, was that Veronica had ZERO reason to believe the girl’s judge story was any more true than anything else she had told them. All of which was shown to be false. It actually pissed me off that it turned out to BE a true story, because that was just bad writing.
I’m glad to see the return of Madison, though. And I wonder if/hope that they revisit the Madison-Mac swapped at birth story.
Logan frequently tries to stop her from doing stupid things. That was I thought a big part of why they broke up, her unwillingness to stop doing stupid (read: dangerous) things and his inability to stop himself from trying to stop her.
I had forgotten about Madison and Mac having been switched at birth. They’ve left that alone for a while, though, not sure why they’d bring it back up since Madison doesn’t know and Mac’s pretty OK with it.
We thought it was a lie, especially when she tossed Max’s phone back to him and said that it couldn’t be traced to her because she used his phone. But, er, it could still be traced to him. And he would just hand her over! That was goofy.
Roni pulling out the boombox and coaching the pelvic thrust for the “stripper Keith” gag. Very sharp.
The gag with Keith in uniform pulling up right next to Lamb, with Lamb doing the double take at the sight.
The subtle running gag about Veronica making Logan watch chick flicks (I think that was a version of Pride and Prejudice on the TV at his place).
Beyond that stuff, I enjoyed the episode, though I agree that blackmailing the judge seemed a little out of left field, and dangerous. I also think they telescoped some time at the end of the ep; it seemed like “beauty and the geek” gave up on each other way too quickly after all they went through.
Again, many of the sidekicks were missing in action. Wallace seems to have taken his usual Winter vacation. At least Weevil put in a showing.
Everything seems to be pointing towards Dean O’Dell’s wife having been the one to kill him. Keep in mind that stuff about the Volvo getting egged, when he’d been driving the minivan. However, it seems kind of stupid, for her to engage Keith in the investigation if she’s the one who killed Cyrus. She’d have to be relying on Keith being an incompetent investigator if she thinks he’s going to prove it was murder and not finger her. I guess at this point it’s the usual muddle.
I too caught the snipped of dialogue spoilered above, from the preview. I’m suspecting a dream sequence, or some chicanery like that. I have no sense that it’s Our Girl who’s…well, we’ll leave that for later.
