Veronica’s not looking at the bag and the bathrobe before going anywhere with the investigation is the single stupidest thing this show has ever tried to foist off on us.
Yay, return of hottie deputy Leo!

Well, she’s entitled to have an off day. I didn’t think of that one - actually I thought it would be the spurned busboy. Maybe this’ll serve as a good reminder to her, to always examine the physical evidence first before going off considering motives and tracking people down.
Also - just because the rock star had some other guy’s bag, did it necessarily mean that the other guy had kept the bag with the tapes? Maybe it was sitting in the airport as unclaimed luggage, or who knows who might have happened to stroll off with it.
Love the friendly relationship they’re building on between Logan and Mac. And as corny as it might be, all I am saying, is give Piz a chance.

How come the computer geek friend (Mac?) broke up with the guy she played ultimate with?
Thought it sucked that the prof shut down Logan’s presentation.
Mac broke up with Bronson because she likes Max, and they have more in common.
What a lame episode. Has this show definitely been axed? It would appear that the writers have just stopped trying.
Time was when I there was so much going on in this show that I could barely keep up. Now I can see things coming a mile away. And last night’s “crime.” WTF??
And give me a break with the washed up rockstar who still has it but lacks confidence so acts like a total prick and drinks too much. That one’s practically fossilized. I suppose next week they’ll trot out the one where someone want to fake being successful so the visiting relative won’t realize what a failure they are.
I’m hoping for a down-on-his-luck boxer to be asked to throw a fight!
Yeah, I don’t know what’s going on with the last two episodes. I enjoy all the character interplay and various relationships, but the actual plots have been kinda lame. I hope if Veronica Mars, FBI takes off, they’ll let her have interesting multi-episode investigations again.
Than again, last night’s episode attracted fewer than two million viewers, which is terrible.
The second stupidest thing the show has tried to foist off on us, or perhaps just the most profoundly irritating. “Gee, thanks for helping me get over my crippling sex phobia, Bronson, gotta go run off to be with the amoral jerkwad now!” I have lost all respect for Mac. Not to mention that Bronson is like five million times cuter than Max on the best day of his life could ever be.
I don’t think it’s stupid. It’s realistic, especially for a 19-year-old girl who couldn’t get a date (except with a psycho!) in high school, but who now is presented with all kinds of options. Plus, whatever Max is doing isn’t any less amoral than Mac collecting all her classmates’ sex secrets with the purity tests and then selling the results online. If anything, Bronson was too sweet and not morally grey enough for this show. I’m sure Piz has some kind of kink or serious issue we don’t know about yet. Or is it actually kinky to be totally normal in the VM-verse?
As cbawlmer said, it’s realistic. Stupid, but that’s how a lot of people behave – and it would certainly be in character for a messed up teenage girl.
I agree that this was an unusually week episode. It had neither a fascinating mystery nor any particularly sparkling and fun interpersonal moments. Most episodes have had at least one or the other.
The MOTW was not particularly well developed, but I suspect for the moment VM is out of the mystery business. They’re more focused on the relationships now, or at least for the present.
Which is an odd choice, if the show will fast forward next season and most of these people will disappear. There was a report today saying that the show is close to being picked up with the new focus for next season. Frankly, I’m a little worried about this, because I keep hearing the words “police procedural” popping up in the discussion. It’s starting to sound like they want to change the show into a slightly younger version of the stupid, boring cops and robbers bullshit that’s littered so much of the TV landscape in recent years. I never give a shit about Law & Order; I’m not likely to give a shit about Veronica Mars trying to ape Law & Order. Not saying I won’t give it a chance, but the leash will be very short…
Enough of that rant. Back to the episode.
I’m just appreciative that most of the cast actually appeared last night. No Weevil or Parker, most of the rest of the crew had some face time. That’s better than half the credited actors disappearing for weeks.
Does anyone know, was Paul Rudd doing his own singing and playing? Not great, not awful; I’m just curious if that was him making the music.
Odd moment: there was one point in the show when I was looking at K. Bell’s face–not hard work–and I noticed her jawline, and it looked (in that shot) exactly like…Enrico Colantoni’s. And I thought, holy shit, they really are father and daughter! I didn’t notice it at any other point, so it was probably just the camera angle, but it was a funny moment.
Just thinking: the biggest thing missing in VM now is the class warfare. Veronica’s shifts back and forth across class lines was a big part of the early seasons; now, everything seems much more muddled, like everyone’s on equal footing. Injecting some of that element back into the story might help make things more interesting again.
The writers really will be stretching credibility if they make Vinnie a legitimate candidate for Sheriff. Having a quote from Keith and a background as a PI wouldn’t cut it in a real election. He still has to conduct himself like a real person–a tough go for Mr. Van Lowe.
I wonder if Logan’s being dissed by the business professor is a set up for something down the line. It would seem odd and wasteful if it was just a throwaway episode.
I momentarily thought the return of Danny Boyd would mean some more Fitzpatrick menace injected into the storyline, but that didn’t seem to pan out. Again, maybe a setup for something in the future.
Overall, not an especially riveting episode. Let’s hope for improvement down the line (with the few eps left in the season).
Hijack: CW really liked the Veronica Mars, FBI pitch.

Also, Inside joke. Producer Joel Silver invented Ulitimate Fisbee. So when Mac threatened to track down the inventor…
