Verushka - The Russian Drink

Hello all,

I was wondering if any one had heard of a russian vodka based drink (I know, I know, They are ALL vodka based) with the name of Verushka?
The spelling of the name might be wrong but from what I remember of the drink it is a citrus based one with honey, Oranges / tangerines and plums. It is to be served warm.

Does any one know of this drink or how to make it?

Thank you in advance for your wealth of knowledge,
Phantoms

I was never here.

No one know anything about it?

Never heard of it, and I’ve spent a fair amount of time in Rusisa and among Russians. It sounds like it was a particular bartender’s invention. I’ll try to ask a Russian co-worker tomorrow. Verushka, by the way, is an affectionate diminutive of the woman’s name Vera.

(Oh, and they’re not all vodka-based. Well, ok, maybe almost all of the mixed drinks are. But Russia also has some yummy fruit cordials - a favorite Ukrainian drink of mine is *nalivka, * a kind of plum brandy, and they also make beer, but I’m told it’s generally pretty awful. I don’t like beer anyway, so I wouldn’t know.)

There’s also an ancient Russian type of mead, whose name is escaping me at the moment, and then there’s kvass, a low-alcohol relative of beer made from fermented rye bread, among other things. I also think it’s nasty, but I’m told it’s an acquired taste.

I googled it. All I could find is that it is a Czech girl name meaning faith .

It also seems to be a food…

Here’s the google links .

[useless trivia]Verushka was the name of a famous Russian model many years ago. Back in my college days she was well know for having appeared in Playboy wearing nothing but spectacular designs of paint.[/useless trivia]

Kvass is indeed vile, or at least to my western senses. I am sure I could get used to it over time as I did with Ginger beer.

The Mari a small cutural group located inPerm’ Province - traditionally offer a welcome of bread (Mari: kinde), butter (Mari: üi), and the local speciality, müi puraga (lit.Mari: pürö), an alcoholic drink made from fermented honey.
That is an unusual stuff but kinda tasty too!

First off I would like to thank the people that responded.
Second, I finally found out how it is prepared. So, for anyone interested this is what you do:

Take canned Pears, Apricots and a Plum and boil the living daylights out of them and then strain them.

You should then be left with a great sauce that has plenty of flavor. What you do then it add a little bit of honey to the mix and then add an equal mix of vodka to the sauce.

If anyone is brave enough to try it, let me know what you think.

Well, it’s official. My co-worker and friend Mashenka, who is definitely an expert when it comes to Russian alcohol habits, has never heard of a drink called “Verushka.” Her theory is that unless it’s some new hot thing that has popped up in the past 6 months since the last time she was there, then it’s some individual bartender’s invention.

I trust Masha implicitly in all matters concerning alcohol in the FSU.
