Saw this today and was impressed. Beautiful rendition of “Pure Imagination,” even if the video itself wasn’t pretty darn cool. It’s not really an ad for Chipotle as much as it is for a new free app they’re releasing.
My god, that animated cow has the saddest eyes I’ve ever seen. And combined with a Fiona Apple cover song? This could bring tyrants to tears.
Took me forever to figure out who that was, I even shazam’d it (which came up empty) before I finally scrolled down a bit. Her voice sounded so familiar I knew it had to be someone. She was the perfect pick for that.
It seems like that’s an ad for a game they put out (which is probably an ad for the restaurant).
Do we know who directed the short firm, it’s very Burton-esque. I wonder if they’re putting it up for any awards?
They sold out to McDonalds and now they are a big McChain restaurant trying to distance themselves from McD’s. Not sure I’m falling for it.
That’s a freaking awesome vid though, when you ignore the self righteousness.
Man, I just knew someone was going to post that. I already looked it up before posting. I know they aren’t owned by McD’s anymore. They were, and they used it to grow big. Fuck 'em. That cow is getting a bullet in the head, box or not.
So you can only be ethical and “legit” if you stay small and reach a very small audience?
Depends on what the message of the film is.
What’s the message of this film? Does Chipotle plausibly actually operate by that message?
I laughed at how over the top and terrible that “ad” was. I’m no fan of Chipotle as it is and now I’m even less inclined to ever visit one again.
I like Chipotle food, and I love the Tabasco brand Chipotle sauce. I’m just not buying the piety.
Brandon Oldenburg and Limbert Fabian.
Very effective ad, but lots of fearmongering and pseudoscience lurking beneath the surface that I find irritating.
Thanks for the link. Great ad, but… Chipotle? Really? That’s their angle?
Very cool! I wouldn’t mind commercials if they were ALL this well-done.
My son works for Chipolte as a kitchen and line worker. It’s vaguely amusing to me how sweetly Chipolte is trying to brand itself as the caring, ethical company when the behind the scenes reality is that they pay minimum wages for insanely hard work and the managers and regional manager make it a point of pride to get rid of as many workers as possible who aren’t total “food warriors”, and they try to keep everyone to 20 -25 hours of work per week at best.
Chipolte food may not be as industrially processed as other chains but the job itself is the same high pressure, high stress service worker meat grinder you find everywhere.
The message of that ad is kind of odd… “Everyone who tells you their food is all-natural is lying to you. Our food is all-natural.”. Oh, and with a side of “And we should know, because we’re the ones who have been working to cover up the truth.”.
I like Chipotle, love the ad and am a vegetarian. They certainly excel at making food from less violent sources… But I hate that horrid, corporate attitude. 1 point for being kind towards animals, -1 for not being kind to fellow man.
