“The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month…”
November 11 was of course the date that the armistice was signed in Europe to end the First World War, so perhaps not moving the holiday to a Monday indicates its importance. (With many of the other holidays, the only thought people give to them is that it’s a three-day weekend.)
No mail on Saturday, November 11. Mail will be delivered tomorrow, the 10th, as usual.
A lot of people mix up Memorial Day and Veterans Day. I’ve even heard comments questioning why we have both holidays.
My dad was career military and a Viet Nam veteran. I know the difference in the two holidays and why they are equally important.
