Just curious . . . I’m sitting at work and justifying my lack of actually working on the fact that today is Veterans day and I shouldn’t have to be here anyway. Just checking to see how far off my rationalization is.
Yes, I get every federal holiday. One of the perks of working for the feds.
I get tomorrow off as part of the “dual weekly holiday” plan that most people call the weekend.
My dad works at Ford and he’s off, but not today. I believe their Veterans Day vacation day is monday or tuesday of next week. I suspect it has something to do with the fact that they had Election Day off and that was this week.
I got school off. It’s nice to have a three day weekend right now as yesterday was my wedding anniversary, but we both had class yesterday (I commute for day class, he commutes for night class). Now we have all weekend to play - after catching up on sleep, anyways.
My MiL works 9/80 and her day off fell today, so they gave her yesterday off too. Working for the City rocks, I guess!
My wife and I are both off. We both work for the state. She’s getting paid, I’m not.
No. Our client has it off and it’s awfully quiet, though. We trade Vet’s day for the day after Thanksgiving, basically, which is OK by me.
I didn’t even realize it was Veteran’s Day 'til I saw the TV this morning. It never occurred to me that anyone would get if off (besides govt employees, that is).
I’ve had today off. It feels like it’s Saturday, so it was kind of strange this morning to see the neighborhood kids being loaded onto schoolbuses as usual.
Today is not Veterans Day. It is on Saturday, November 11th. I am at work. And I have to work the Day after Thanksgiving too as that is not a holiday either.
Most of my customers and a couple of my suppliers.
But not me, a retired squid.
Yes.
I’m a State Employee.
I was talking to my mother earlier today–my father is going to be working tomorrow. They don’t even open on Saturdays. (Funny, six months ago they were talking about how slow it’s been and how badly the industry is doing, now he’s so busy he can’t handle all the work coming his way.)
University will be closed on Monday for me. Which I’m sure the freshmen will enjoy, since they were all writing a midterm this morning.
At our small law firm, we have what are called half-staff days: Columbus Day and Veteran’s Day. The idea is that half the staff takes off one of the days, and the other half gets the other holiday off. I worked on Columbus Day, and was slated to have today off.
…
But one of the attorneys needed me for a project today. No biggie; I came in and took care of it. But one of the other attorneys is now worried about letting me go home because we’re a bit short(er) staffed today due to a death in someone’s family. So…here I am.
I haven’t had Veteran’s Day observance off in 5 years – which was when I left County/State employment.
Hubby, though, does.
Yup. The County govt. has the day off.
It’s great to salaried.
I got my day off. I work on campus and our campus was closed for a holiday. This was a wonderful thing because I got out of working right in time to make it to…LASERTAG!!!
Since the college was closed, our Student Government planned a trip for it’s members to go bowling or play lasertag. I never played until today and it was well worth the day off of work…
Brendon
State employee, so…yes.
Teacher, so yes. Gotta love those 3 day weekends, and since we have a debate tournament this weekend, this is the only day off I get.
The only reason I get Veterans’ Day off is because it falls on Saturday and my contract guarantees Saturdays, Sundays, and S. Korean national holidays off. Friday was, of course, a work day. Today is also 배배로 Day (Pepero Day) for those who care about ridiculous things.
