I don’t normally work Saturdays, so I have Remembrance Day off (Nov. 11), but I would take it off without pay on other years if I had to, because I think it is disrespectful to work on a day that is for remembrance of wars and veterans. Fortunately, it has been made a statutory holiday round these parts, so I don’t have to fight that battle any more.
Nope. I work at a VA hospital.
I’m at work, but I haven’t done one stitch of work today. I guess I can consider that a sort of holiday, as I’m spending my time reading interesting/entertaining/informative posts by you fine dopers.
I’ve done maybe 5 stitches of work . . . I’m adhering to the old “in any given week, I’d say I only do about 15 minutes of real actual work” from the movie Office Space . . . classic!
I get Monday off too, but then I will be a veteran when I leave the army in 3 more years.
No. I can be asked to work any day of the year except Christmas. (hey, it’s something. Some people don’t even get Christmas off - emergency workers, police etc.)
I was off yesterday - the state university where I work is closed for Veteran’s Day.
No
but I did stretch two hours of work into eight
W O O H O O ! !
I didn’t have the day off… But I got free parking!
I had Friday off from classes, which is quite useful, as it gave me time to work on graduate school applications.
Another state employee, here. I had Friday off.
This isn’t a zombie thread yet, is it?
I did not get Friday, Saturday, or Sunday off. Nor will I have Monday off. And I worked Thursday.
Ah, retail. But it was very quiet today. Yesterday was insane.
