VH1's Tool Academy

Oh. My. God.

Has anyone see this show?

For those who haven’t… what they apparently do is get a bunch of guys together who get hit on by multiple women with hidden cameras watching. They then all get together with their GIRLFRIENDS to watch the tapes. Talk about some spectacularly awkward moments. Lots of man-tears and beaten egos. Must watch if you like vile TV.

So the guys are ashamed for flirting with the women, or what?

Well, they’re usually doing a little more than flirting (hands, kissing) and they talk negatively about their girlfriends. Then said girlfriends get to see hands, kissing and crappy talk.

Then the boys reveal themselves to be gutless “tools.”

And do they get their asses dumped? Because that I would watch.

Not sure… it’s the first time I watched. Apparently it’s a season-long elimination type show.

What has happened since I posted this thread is that they competed in some stupid couples-only activities with a couples counselor watching. The couples counselor then decides which guy can stay on the show, based on how much effort they’re putting into the relationship or how badly they appear to feel about being unfaithful to their girlfriends (while watching the video tapes, most of the guys thought that was a good time to confess to other transgressions).

The guy that got eliminated actually had the balls to come out and dump his girlfriend because he feels that she’s always riding him about being flirty (and unfaithful).

Wow. I’m just speechless.

Not usually (in my defense, this is on one of the three TVs at my gym, with subtitles turned on, and sometimes it is just an irresistable wicked pleasure). Usually the girls chew them out on camera (i.e. with words, get your mind out of the gutter) and then cry a lot and then hope they can stay together. That’s the part I don’t understand. Of course, if the girlfriends walked out, there’s no show, because the whole point is to reward the guy who makes the most progress away from being a tool towards having a real relationship with the girlfriend he came in with.
Roddy

I watched last season–and wow, the tools this season appear to be even more toolish, although I came in late to the first season to be fair.

olivesmarch4th, at the end of the show, the guy who’s shown the least progress is kicked off the show (“You’re just a tool”). He then must walk out the main entrance, where all the girlfriends are gathered to see whose man has been given the boot. The losing tool’s girlfriend then choosing–either she gives him another chance, and they get in the limo together to be driven off set, or she breaks up with him and gets in the limo alone (leaving him just standing there). Last season, that did happen a few times. Even when it didn’t, there was some satisfaction when the girl takes him back (as opposed to yelling “What the hell are you thinking??” at the TV) as the other girlfriends watch and have the same reaction you are. Some of these young women also pause and think–holy CRAP, is that how dumb I’m being?

Last season’s winner, for a nice change, was dating a girl who did not have the Typical Reality Show Girl look. She was considerably overweight and not particularly refined in appearance (though she made herself up well), and it was nice to see someone a bit more, well, REAL on a show like this.

The fidelity challenge is the second show of this season. If you want to see the biggest tantrum, watch the season premiere. I only caught about the last 40min (90 for the premiere only), and the losing tool had a complete tantrum.
He refused to be told “You’re just a tool” and bolted, trying to exit through a different door, and refused to go where all the girlfriends were waiting. He kept trying to run and get his things (not part of the deal). Security was called, and told him either he went out the correct exit, or they would physically drag him. They had to physically drag him (although it wasn’t too forceful–hands on the shoulders kind of thing), telling him “Now, you’re trespassing.” Meanwhile, the host revealed some of his own toolishness–I was stunned to see him angrily waving his arms and shouting, “You just a FUCKING TOOL! Get the FUCK OUT! Your a TOOL! Get OUT!”–repeat.

The losing tool then went around the side to find his completely bewildered girlfriend, where he begged her “Say ‘I love you,’” repeatedly. He kept trying to chase off the cameras, but that’s not part of the deal either. He begged her to get in the limo, and she eventually agreed; he was behaving like a frightened child and it must have been quite surreal for her. In the limo, he covered the camera with his hand and again begged her, “Say ‘I love you.’”
The thing is, I did feel for the guy. He didn’t sign up for THIS show, and the walk of shame is–well, shameful. Perhaps humiliating. But his antics did not exactly shine a flattering light on him, either.

The remaining girlfriends said simply, “Well, he certainly showed he was the biggest tool here.”
