Vice President predictions

I am frankly surprised, although of course pleased, that it appears there has been no serious attempt to assassinate President Obama since he took office. The people who hate him most strike me as those most likely to have both guns and little regard for consequences.

Most people who assassinate Presidents are lone wolves with mental problems. Obama’s the type where people would probably gather around to talk about taking him out, which either a) means it will never happen, or b) the Secret Service gets wind of it, which has happened a couple of times.

For all the people who hated the last three Presidents, if Trump is assassinated it will probably be by someone who was mad that Omarosa got fired and finally got up the gumption to do something about it.

Not entirely unheard of; IIRC, FDR didn’t pick a vice-president for 1944, but let the convention choose Truman.

However, the Constitution requires that the Electoral College vote for a VP; it can’t be “nobody.” Then again, “nobody” does have experience; “nobody” was VP from when Johnson became President following Kennedy’s death in late 1963 to when Hubert Humphrey was sworn in as VP in early 1965.

Trump should pick Palin. It worked so well for McCain. Santorum lost badly in PA once they discovered how bad he was. I don’t think he would help carry the state. Especially if they allow blacks to vote.

I cannot imagine whom Hillary would pick. Cory Booker would be a nice choice, but with Christie as governor, it would cost the Dems a senate seat.

Yeah, there’s no predicting a loony toon.

THat may be why speculation centers around Obama’s cabinet. Usually cabinet officials aren’t considered, but when Republicans control most of the states and you want to win the Senate back, the usual places to look for a VP aren’t accessible.

BTW, I read an interesting tidbit in Game Change about Tim Kaine. Hillary, discussing possible Obama VP picks with her inner circle, described Kaine as an “awful” choice.

Count me as someone not buying the Castro hype. He seems like a good guy but it seems way too soon given his experience. If it is about the Hispanic demographic then Perez would be make more sense.

I actually thought to suggest Gavin Newsom but I see he is exploring a run for Governor in 2018 so that rules him out until at least 2024 (or 2020 depending on if the Dems win this time out).

What about Jennifer Granholm for either Hillary or Bernie? I realize there would probably be some folks uptight about two women but she seems to be a bright, charasmatic sort with executive experience.

And Canadian.

Hillary needs somebody from a red state.

Ah. Well there’s that. :smack:

There’s a long list of former Democrats from red states. Not too many currently representing red states. Mark Warner would be the best choice if she wants a President on the ticket with her. Evan Bayh is still around too.

If Tom Wolf didn’t have cancer …

Maybe John Hickenlooper?

Great choice.

The case for Vice President Al Franken.

Lot of good points. Pretty sure it’s not gonna happen, but I could think of a lot worse. His background in entertainment AND comedy would give the Clinton campaign an edge on Trump, to boldly call out the ridiculousness of Don again and again and again. Plus he’s a solid progressive from a midwestern state with a Democratic governor.

Al Franken is one of the smartest men in politics and one of the most honest too. Adaher approves.

That’s like getting kissed on the cheek by Vito Corleone.

Same here, but I’d love to see Al dissecting Trump. He doesn’t need to be selected to do that, but he’d be in a much more high-profile position to do so.

He’s good enough, he’s smart enough, and doggone it, people like him.

Who would get his Senate seat?

Nobody, for six months or so, based on history.
