Vicious Canadians

Closely related to…

I thought this thread was going to be about these vicious Canadians.

So Lou Reed was singing about Canadians? Never would have guessed…
BTW, PatrickLondon, that is very curious poster in your article about the crucified soldier. It seems it was printed in the Philipines for a Spanish speaking audience, but they got the Spanish all wrong.

Canadians certainly weren’t nice to Japanese Canadians during and after WWII.

During the war, the Japanese Canadians who were living in British Columbia were sent to internment camps. This also happened in the U.S. But unlike the U.S., they were not allowed to return to their homes after the war ended. Some were even exiled to Japan.

IT appears to have been a poster prepared by the US gov’t after the US entered the war.

Note the term “Liberty bond” and the US flag.

Not surprisingly, warfare seems to bring out the worst in human beings. There is no logical reason to believe that Canadians would be any different. Keep in mind that those Germans who were asking for “more” would also have killed those Canadians in battle the very next day with no hesitation whatsoever.

Americans were terrified over the Niihau incident. Contemporary Canadians may have hear of it.

You also don’t want to mess with the Toronto Beach Patrol.

Pull their pants the rest of the way down, take their saws and laugh while they struggle to stand. Easy peasy.

Especially considering how well the Japanese treated the POW’s under their care. Oh wait.

Of the 27,000 Americans taken prisoner by the Japanese, a shocking 40 percent died in captivity, according to the U.S. Congressional Research Service. That compares with just one percent of American prisoners who died in German POW camps.

Canadian government treatment of Japanese Canadians was terrible, yes. Land was literally stolen from them. And amends are being made even today. The context of what was going on in the world at that time is important however.

Most Canadians are reasonably nice. Many are not. Stereotypes, even when they are somewhat accurate in a general sense, obviously do not always apply to everyone. I have met a number of tourists in Canada shocked to have their wallets stolen, etc.

Nobody who’s ever seen a professional hockey game thinks Canadians are nice.

Ah, do Canadians play hockey?

Nah, it’s not really popular around here.

The real Canadians on a hockey team are the goalies, not the toothless gorillas who go around attacking each other with fists and sticks and smashing each other into the boards. Goalies are skilled, patient, methodical, and never fight. In fact, if an enemy player tries to mess with a goalie, there is at least one Designated Gorilla on his team who will make short work of the offender. The gorillas are mostly European communists, anyway.

Goalies. The real Canadians.

If you want to call Tiger Williams, Tie Domi and Dave Semenko European communists, go ahead, it’s your funeral.

Canadians are generally nice, excepting matters of traffic and warfare. Especially traffic.

Really? I once spent an hour at a 4 way stop in Moose Jaw. Everybody wanted everybody else to go first.

She’s Torontonian, so that might apply specifically to them

I could build a comedy routine about Canadian drivers.
