Victoria Gotti’s eulogy for daddy.
“THANKS, DAD, FOR TEACHING ME TO CHASE MY DREAMS”
Small part
Mostly though, Daddy taught me that the only effective way to settle a business dispute with a creep, is to have one of your goombas whack his ass.
Let’s see if I have this right:
To be a great man = Rule by fear and intimidation
To be well-respected = Kill or maim those who do not respect me
Got it.
He was her father, for God’s sake. Let the lady have her memories! Sheesh.
I agree.
Uh huh. What next…a loving tribute to Jeffrey Dahmer’s “appetite for life”, or Timothy McVeigh’s “fierce sense of independence”?
Sorry, when her “memories” are published in a newspaper for all to see…she invites reaction.
She can have her memories. What she can not do is put forth her opinions in public without that same public putting forth their opinons.
Let her rot.
Aye.
Though, hopefully, she retained her father’s better qualities (shrewd business sense?) without developing those less desirable ones…
Let her rot? Because she loved and respected her father?
Absolutely. Even more so for actively promoting a noble myth in memory of her father. The man was evil, and should be recognized as such.
Because she took this public. She published this bit in a major newspaper in the same town where her father caused great grief and several deaths.
She has maintained a fairly public profile about her father’s actions ever since he was incarerated (I recall her being on Larry King…perhaps other shows as well). This is not private grief about the loss of a loved one. This goes beyond that.
Again…you didn’t see the Dahmer family do this, or the McVeigh family or countless other grieving families.
Hmmm…I wonder what her idea of a discpicable, disrespectful character would be…
shudder
Sammy “the Bull” Gravano, maybe.
At least she got to bury her father. Did the family of the neighbor who accidentally hit her brother with his car ever find out what happened to him? Her father, the “man of strength and character”, made the guy disappear. No telling what was done to him before they killed him and or what they did with the body.
If what she said helps her deal with her father’s death, fine, but don’t expect us to share her delusion.
John Gotti was shit, and I’m glad that he’s no longer part of the picture.
Vicki doesn’t know that her dada actually did buy her a pony once. But the boys saw it out back, and decided to use its head to intimidate a Hollywood producer.
Yes. It’s not like she didn’t know who he was or what he did.
I agree that the man was a bastard (for lack of a stronger word at this point…), and that if his daughter is going to make her comments public, she opens herself up to “You’ve got to be kidding, right?”
However, I’m guessing that although this little girl knew what her father did to people, she is also thinking about what he did for her. At the risk of sounding all Kum Ba Ya, remember that even though this was a man who did horrendous things to other people in the name of money and power, he also was probably a guy who loved his daughter, and saw to it that she had everything she needed to make her happy.
I mean, everybody has good and bad attributes, in varying degrees, so even though we might see him as a horrible person, chances are he had good attributes as well.
Note: This also goes for the asshole realtor who sold me my house. As he was busy screwing over everyone in his path, all for a lousy commission, I was forced to realize that this guy has people who love him, people who invite him over for dinner, people who ENJOY HIS COMPANY. Granted, I seriously doubt that this guy’s a murderer, but work with me, here.
So all I’m saying is that the John Gotti WE all saw probably differs a little from the one his daughter saw. I think it’s possible for him to have been both guys in one fucked up package.
Of course, auntie, that goes without saying.
It’s just that much scarier, methinks.
Apparently Gotti taught about 19 other men how to dream as well.
