Vida Blue (the band) (Phish-related)

I don’t know if anyone else is interested, but you can listen to the new album by Vida Blue in its entirety at www.vidablue.net. Vida Blue is the new project by Phish keyboardist Page McConnell, along with bassist Oteil Burbridge and drummer Russell Batiste.

I’ve listened to about half of it, and it’s not bad. It reminds me of Phish’s more dance-club-worthy moments, particularly the “Story of the Ghost” from Live Phish 11. It isn’t as good as Trey’s solo album, but not many albums are going to be.

Now if only either tour were coming to North Carolina… :frowning:

I been out of the Phish loop lately…Anasatasio’s new solo album isn’t all improv like the last one he put out is it? I listened to that one once and it became a coaster afterwards.

If you’re referring to “Surrender to the Air”, then Trey’s new album is about as far as you can get from it and still be Trey.

If you’re referring to “One Man’s Trash”, it’s a little bit closer, but the new one is a lot more developed and it rocks a lot harder.

I really don’t like Vida Blue as much as I like both the Trey Anastasio band and Oysterhead, but there’s a sort of Steely Dan-ish groove there that might evolve into something interesting…[nerdy fan desperation] oh, that is, if there is time for evolution before Phish just gets back together, right? They’re getting back together really soon, right? [/nerdy fan desperation]

I am seeing Trey on Saturday  Dr J, you are in the right part of the world- are you going to Bonnaroo?

Even as the king of nerdy fans, I’m nowhere near tired of the hiatus. I mean, we’ve had two killer albums from Trey in the meantime (Oysterhead and the new one) and this one from Page that seems to be cool. I think that when they do come back together–and it will happen–it will blow us all away, but only if it happens on its own time.

No, dammit, I won’t be at Bonnaroo, as I start orientation for my residency on Monday morning at 8:30. (If Trey had been playing on Saturday instead of Sunday, it would be a different story.) I remember hearing a while back that a lot of people were expecting a fiasco, since the promoters don’t seem to be entirely sure of what they’re doing.

Is there any word on whether Mike Houser is going to be able to play with WSP? I don’t think the band has even said anything publicly about his cancer, but a lot of people weren’t expecting him to play Bonnaroo.

Oh, you must have so much patience. I thought for sure that when they announced their shot on the Simpsons that it was for publicity before the big reunion tour. sniff. Congrats on easing into your residency.

I haven’t heard anything about Mike Houser. Nothing is up on the website, but you probably know that.
