Videos Shot In One Take.

I’d like to make a list of videos shot in one take. Particularly those with a scripted sequence of (chain) events, i.e. not interviews.

Honda’s The Cog

Car parts are used to set up a chain reaction. Supposedly, this was filmed in 2 parts, although of the same attempt, and seamlessly merged.

Ok Go’s The Writing’s On The Wall

This music video incorporates many optical illusions, mostly forced perspective.

The Sunday Times’ Icons

Seamlessly switching between several iconic pictures.

Do you really mean one take, as in nailed it the first time, or one long shot?

Russian Ark is a full length scripted film done with one shot. The length of the film was determined by maximum recording time possible with the camera.

I was thinking about what to use as the title, then I decided one take <> first take. So one long shot, but probably not the first attempt. Still thinking how to describe the Icons and Ok Go’s video, though. Sequence of scenes? Scripted setups? Poses? Positions?

It’s called a one-shot, and Wikipedia has already done a lot of work for you:

Timecode.
(FOUR videos shot in one take, in sync!)

Ok what a coincidence, I just found this video:

Rube Goldberg Machine Trailer for Leo’s Fortune

Mostly balls on tracks.

Bad url, (plus it’s mobile, ugh). Fixed link.

Has it ever been shown that “Come As You Are” by Peter Wolf isn’t a single take? I doubt it myself.

My first thought was Elton Johns “I Want Love” video, starring Robert Downey Jr.

Elton John - I Want Love - YouTube

I love this one, although it’s more about the video than the music, but still, it’s a music video.

There’s Gregory Peck’s famous courtroom speech in* To Kill a Mockingbird. *

Wow thanks, didn’t know it was so common. I must note that Happy and Weird Al’s Tacky are both like that, the latter only having come out this week. More and more coincidences.

There’s a really obvious cut at 1:22 (ish). I didn’t bother watching beyond that.

I immediately thought of Lucas with the Lid Off from one hit wonder Lucas (though it seems he is very successful as a producer). I always found that video to be fascinating. It was filmed by Michel Gondry who turned the one shot into his signature.

And the amazing opening shot of A Touch of Evil.

Since these are deliberate choices I don’t think you can call it a coincidence.

The pictures they make these days are all MTV- cut, cut, cut, cut.

Forgot about that one.

IIRC, the video for the Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” was shot with one camera in one take.

The Grand Rapids LipDub is my favorite.

In addition to several OK Go videos listed on that Wiki, Needing/Getting is also one single take, although it’s shot simultaneously with several dozen cameras, which were stitched together to create the video. Amazing stuff.
