Viglink won't let me click on my link

I wanted to look at a link I posted in IMHO, and when the new tab opens nothing loads and the address is ‘api.viglink’-something instead of the address I posted in the thread.

Pisses me off.

I’m on the office PC today, running WIN7.

I really don’t have anything good to say about viglink. I wish they would get rid of it but that’s not my department.

Anyway, if your office allows you to make changes to your PC, you can add viglink.com to your ad blocker or you can use a script blocker to kill it.

Every time I see Viglink, I imagine getting an email: “That’s a nice website you tried to visit. Be a shame if something happened to it.”

I recall viglink from the days before I started using an adblocker and noscript. The damn thing was always hanging, taking ages to load and sometimes not loading at all. A real pain in the posterior. Clearly they haven’t improved.

Not only haven’t they improved, they have gotten worse at munging things.

It’s essentially malware at this point.

You can opt out of Viglink here.

Considering the behavior of Viglink, I wouldn’t trust anything they put on my computer. NoScript blocks it just fine.

Reddit got rid of it. They said it wasn’t worth the headache for the little revenue.

Of course, their new model will be to have ads, albeit clearly labeled, mixed in with regular posts. And to also let a company sponsor a pre-existing post to get a copy of it on the front page.

That’s funny-I supposedly “opted out” using that site, and it didn’t do a damn thing. The links are still going through Viglink.
