Straight shots only-no mixed drinks, please.
For me, its just got to be Jägermeister. It tastes like something you would threaten a kid with, and it smells like an herb garden gone horribly bad.

Agree with Jägermeister; I have no idea how that stuff became popular. A close second in nastiness: Southern Comfort, which tastes like cheap, generic cough syrup manufactured in a third-world country.
I like jagermeister. However, I hate ouzo. I’m also not a fan of absinthe.
A woman from Germany once told me Jagermeister is seen over there more as medicinal, something you might take a spoonful of for an upset stomach.
Jagermeister is about the only booze I will drink, cept for the occasional shot of Pucker.
Hate rum, tequilla, whiskey, gin and the rest…horrible stuff.
Jager is the vilest swill on any planet.
I am not sure how accurate this is, as it is sold in just about every bar/tavern/bierhall I have ever visited over there…
Vermouth. I thought it was like drinking aftershave or something like that.
EDIT: I guess that’s not quite “hard alcohol”, though.
I don’t think I’ve ever tried a spirit that I didn’t like. Vodka, gin, whisky, it’s all good.
I think you have to differentiate between spirits and liqueurs like Jägermeister, which are often icky.
I always saw the popularity of Jägermeister as college kids who were just getting into drinking and didn’t really know what to order. The older partiers chant “Jager shots! Woo Hoo!” and the newbies go along. Eventually, they become the veterans and pass along the tribal ritual.
I’m including both in this thread.
Fair enough. That coffee one, then… (checks Wiki) …Kahlúa. Ugh.
Maybe I’ve only sampled the cheap stuff but, gin. Pee-yook. It’s like Pine-sol, with the urine coloring removed.
Never was very fond of vodka. At best, it’s flavorless, and unfortunately, most of the time, has overtones of rubbing alcohol and paint thinner.
If I’m going to drink spirits, I’m going to drink something with some character.
Also, I’m not fond of vermouth either. Fine to cook with, but I’m not terribly fond of vermouth-heavy cocktails like a Manhattan or a Martini.
Czarcasm hit it out of the park on the first post: Jägermeister. That stuff makes Robitussin look good–and that’s coming from someone who keeps absinthe and a selection of “sipping” tequilas on hand.
I don’t like vodka that much. I’ll mix it with something else, but it tastes like shoe polish when drunk straight.
Tequila and anything involving tequila. Instant gag reflex, but with no history of aversion.
Re: vodka, the cheap stuff tastes like isopropyl alcohol smells, while I’m not paying $40 a bottle for the expensive stuff. That’s why I’m that weirdo who likes gin in his martini, Collins, gimlet, etc.
I don’t get the popularity of Jägermeister. That’s not to say I hate it, I rather like it. However, 99/100 people I talk to hate the taste of licorice, and I somehow doubt all these frat boys are exceptions. The first time I (re?) tried it, I was pleasantly surprised.
Rumple Minze peppermint schnappes: the devil incarnate.
A few years ago we had a bad ice storm that knocked the power out for four days. One night while sitting around in the candlelight we decided to start drinking some of this. After running out we went to the corner store to get a couple more bottles (it seemed to keep our minds off being cold), we end up drinking 3/4 of a gallon between the four of us. I’ve never been so shitfaced in my life. The next evening when I wake up, the paint on the wall is peeling, and pieces of floor tile is popping up where we splashed and spilled that crap. Haven’t touched it since.
I love Chartreuse. Ice lime zest. Historic, unusual, interesting, expensive. It has has a super high alcohol content. Great for some of my more contemplative nights. I have noticed itspeculiar taste to be a turn of to many. Some ranking it more.vile than straight Pernod or Jeger.
So what do hard alcohol do you hate the most?
