Violence overexposure...

Crazy, i was watching Major League baseball yesterday… which is a wholesome thing to watch, right? Well during the commercial breaks. I saw

[ul]
[li]5 car and other explosions[/li][li]a couple newsbreaks about the sniper[/li][li]some movie trailers with guns firing[/li][li]And at least 10+ cases of near nudity[/li][/ul]

It isnt safe to let your kid watch TV at all. Our nation and our natiions children are becoming so insensitive to violence. Desensitived. That is why fools like the sniper can go on rampages like this, he/she has been totally desensitived and doesnt grasp the human suffering element.

For example Grand Theft Auto 3… you can go around an murder and run over people with a car, beat them to death with a baseball bat. Use your bazooka and blow up helicopters out of the sky. Excessive violence, that all these people have at their disposal.

Freedom of Speech, sure, but during prime time, these kind of commercials shouldnt be played. Until like after a certain time, It bugs me that little eyes see this glorified violence, while watching a wholesome show at a decent hour of day.

This is nuts.

Fortunately, you had the slug-like pace of the game itself to calm you down between the commericals.

Wouldn’t you rather have people blowing up virtual helicopters and killing virtual hookers in Grand Theft Auto 3 than blowing up real helicopters and killing real hookers?

I was doing a little research the other day and you know what I discovered? There was actually violence BEFORE televison and videogames! Imagine that.
Maybe you should ask why violence in video games and media is so appealing to so many people.

Crazy, I was watching King Lear last month … which is a wholesome thing to watch, right? And I saw at least five murders, a war, and this guy getting his eyes gouged out. It’s a wonder those seventeenth-century folks weren’t having wars and killing each other all the time … oh, wait …

Sorry, but I’m with msmith537 – not only is violence in popular culture nothing new, but we’re probably living through the least violent era in Western history right at the moment. In fact, it’s probably a measure of how sensitized we are to violence that anybody is even bothered by these images in the media. Our ancestors used to walk past severed heads on stakes all the time and thought nothing of it.

I’m not too worried, the world goes on regardless.

Mmmm…head-steak. Ghalaghgaah!!

[Bart Simpson] “Lisa, if you don’t watch the violence, you’ll never get desensitized to it.” [BS]

I think violence is part of the human condition. If you are looking for inspiration for the school shootings / snipings, look at the “I don’t like mondays” shooter. That was 1979. Since then it has become a fad - a sick, twisted fad. After the 1979 incident it became something kids talked about. Now, of course, it has become part of the fabric of society. Don’t like your classmates? Hey, steal a gun and shoot them, like X, Y, and Z did. Don’t name them - see next point.

Personally, YMMV, I place some of the blame on the sensational wall-to-wall, 24-7 media attention any sick twist gets for piling up a large body count. Instant attention for those who have never heard of bad attention.
