…Although those “hijinks” might not be the ones you might have pictured when reading the title of the thread.
A Virginia man went for a run-of-the-mill colonoscopy. He decided to record with his smartphone whatever the doctors might say during the procedure, in case they were to mention something important that he might not properly remember due to being just off the anaesthesia. Crucially, he didn’t mention anything to anybody.
Everything is done, and he goes home listening to the recording… And that is when the hit shit the fan, because he discovered that the doctors were basically trashing him rather viciously. Apparently they had taken a dislike to him, and as soon as he drifted off to sleep, they began tearing him apart, and not only that – they discussed avoiding him afterwards, and even wrote a false diagnosis in his medical chart, apparently just for the hell of it.
The man sued, and after a 3-day trial he was awarded $500,000 for defamation, medical malpractice and punitive damages.
Read the whole weird story here.
Leaving aside the astonishing lack of professionalism on the part of the doctors involved… I only have a question for them: Are you stupid or what?! Any doctor worth his or her salt (moreso if they happen to be anaesthesiologists!!) knows that you cannot assume that an anaesthesised patient is not hearing what you say, and won’t potentially remember it afterwards!!
My father (a doctor) knew that, my mother (a nurse) knows that… What the flaming hell, people; what the flaming hell…
