Vista Media Player DVD Playback - Extremely Quiet

Hi all -

Got myself a new laptop (yay!) that shipped with Vista (no!). Turns out, however, that except for a couple very specific work apps not running, Vista hasn’t been as horrid as I’d feared.

Anyways, on this new unit I’m trying to play a DVD, and it does just fine. But the audio, cranked to max in Windows and WMP is very quiet. I’d put it down to wimpy speakers, but the fact of the matter is that I can really get some good noise out of this thing when I’m playing something other than a DVD like another file in WMP or a Youtube video.

Anyone have any brilliant ideas?

ETA: Running a DVD through VLC works just fine.
