Every day I take one multi vitamin. It has 100% USRDA of pretty much everything. Then a good friend tells me about a article he read that says the USRDA is actually too low for many nutrients, and that people should take larger doses.
So i decided to give it a try to see how I feel. Yesterday I took 3 multivitamins.
MistAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAke!
I got the shits like you wouldn’t believe. From 3 little pills. Did I poison my self? I feel fine now.
Yes, it’s been nice knowing you. We’ll hoist a brew in memory of you at the Fabulous Las Vegas DopeDebauch 2000 and the beautiful Imperial Palace Hotel, Sept 1-4, 2000!!!.
A few extra multivitamins won’t kill you but here’s a list of vitamin toxicity Looks like excess C could have caused your symptoms.
If you eat anything at all other than cardboard, one multivitamin should do you fine. You were surviving before you took any multivitamins weren’t you? You can get too much of a good thing… especially with the fat soluble vitamins.
I’m not a doctor, but pkbites only got 3 times the RDA, so I’d say vitamin C toxicity is ruled out.
But you should see your doctor for a definitive answer.
You could just be sensitive to one of the components of that particular tablet, even the filler, for that matter. So you probably didn’t poison yourself in any way. But keep to the stated dosage in the future. And you really don’t need any supplements if you eat a balanced diet.
FWIW, in the past for some extended periods I took large doses of vitamins, including A and C (.5 gram or 8 times the RDA). I never noticed any improvement in my general health (or any problems). I only saw the official effects. For example, my night vision was a little better with vitamin A. My gums were healthier with the extra vitamin C, but became a little sensitive when it was discontinued. This is known as “rebound scurvy.” The extra tissue built up because of the extra vitamin broke down when the extra vitamin was removed.
Steve-o - makes a good point. That’s what ticks me off about the Total cereal commercial. Why is it even desirable to get 100% of your nutrition from a single serving of one food. Better to eat right and take a suppliment if you need it.
