Viva Laughlin 10/18

Anyone else watching this piece of drek?

The actors singing along to oldies but goodies is absolutely horrifying.

If this makes it more than 3 weeks I’ll be amazed.

That was just so bad.
I didn’t expect good. I expected some cheesiness, some problems, some missteps, but everything about it was bad. It was bad in ways that defied explanation. You’d think that someone would have looked at it somewhere along the way and thought “wow, this sucks,” but apparently that didn’t happen and they just let it go to air.

The one thing I could say about it was that it was uniquely bad - most bad shows are bad in the same way. I’ve never seen TV shows that were that type of bad. Ed Wood, but not TV.

I laughed a lot. Not when I was supposed to, but still laughter is laughter. I’ll probably watch it again.

Am I the only one who thought the Cop Rock premise needed revisiting?

I kind of liked the show.

It’s not from Cop Rock. It was a BBC show. The original was Viva Blackpool.

I would have preferred if they just sang the songs. It is annoying to hear the original vocals underneath.

The Mrs had this on when I sat down, after about 5 minutes and two songs I reclaimed control of the remote  Whoever was responsible for the dredge is deserving of a good old fashioned tar & feathering

I believe the original was just Blackpool, which then had a short sequel called Viva Blackpool…?

Anyway, I’ve seen all six episodes of Blackpool, and loved it to death (they sang over the original songs on that one as well, but it worked somehow), so I’m torn over whether I should try to support this, or run away screaming.

Mr. Bunny stayed up and watched it, and just laughed a lot when I asked him if it was any good.

So, you’re saying that in the concept of blending musical theatre and tv drama, that Blackpool predates Cop Rock?

(emphasis mine)

I’m not disputing the show’s genealogy, just the concept’s.

It’s syndicated title was Viva Blackpool.

Never mind. Nothing to see here.

Yes both used music. I don’t see any other similarities. I doubt anyone said, “Lets do another Cop Rock.” It worked out so well the first time.

Forgot to mention that as an added bonus there is Mädchen Amick. Still one of the most beautiful women in the world.

There it is.

I enjoyed Viva Blackpool - although the only reason I watched it was because David Tennant was in it. I didn’t think it was great, but I enjoyed it. I was really looking forward to this. But when he was just singing over “Viva Las Vegas” at the beginning I started to get uncomfortable. And when “Sympathy for the Devil” came on, I just got depressed. And it was the perfect blend of song and theme, and I know Hugh Jackman can sing, but why I even have musical numbers if you’re not going to, you know, have musical numbers?

Yeah. Terrible disappointment.

One of the great moments in Blackpool was when he was trying to get these old fogey investors in on the deal, and he starts singing “I’m Gonna Make You Love Me” and all these balding, porky white guys start dancing around. It was just the right amount of cheese, and would fit in perfectly with the casino concept in Nevada (more Vegas than Laughlin, but whatever)…so it should work a lot better than Cop Rock…but it doesn’t. They didn’t trust the concept enough.

Flipping channels…

Hey, it’s James from “Coupling.”

Oh. And that Working Girl who used to look nice before the awful plastic surgery.

Continue flipping channels.

Forgot to watch it Thursday, caught it last night – found it amusing, actually. shrug

I watched the first episode and didn’t hate it. I started to watch last night and I had to turn it off when they started singing.

First Cancelled Show of the Year - it’ll be announced later today.

I have the second episode on DVR. I should watch it. In a way, it’s sad. I do think that the idea could have worked. I just think it was done poorly, bad script, bad acting, bad direction, horrible editing (there were scenes which cut from night to day to night again, depending on which closeup you were looking at - and ones that switched from inside to outside mid sentence. No one caught that?).

I think actors singing on tv could work, but you need a strong cast and crew and everyone involved has to believe in the project. Here, that didn’t happen.

Say, that is good news .

Thank Og it was put out of it’s misery quickly

Anything that brings Amazing Race back on the schedule is good.

CBS Cancels Jackman’s ‘Viva Laughlin’ announced 40 minutes ago.
