Voice Projection Headaches...

I often perform in bars, where the noise level is extremely high. This forces me to project my voice in order to be heard. I’ve noticed that if I am forced to project continuously during a long routine, when I STOP speaking I get an immediate headache that feels a lot like “brain-freeze” headaches. And like brain-freeze, the headache slowly dissipates over a minute or so. My first guess would be something to do with raising my blood pressure (although I was told my blood pressure is generally low).

Here’s the wierd part; I only get the headache when I stop yelling at the top of my lungs. And when in onsets, if I launch back into my shtick at full volume - The headache immediately stops… Why? What causes the headache, why do I get it only when I STOP yelling, and why does it go away when I start up again?

Hmm. IIRC it is true that talking loudly raises your blood pressure, but I can’t see how stopping talking would cause the headache.

Also, IIRC, when you shout, your eardrums are contracted to protect your hearing. Perhaps when you stop shouting, the full noise of the bar hits you and causes a headache?
