I registered with the United Way to help rebuild NYC’s computer infrastructure. Does anyone have any information on what more I could do to help with that? I will be in NY after Oct 22nd. I am proficient in both Mac and PC and am perfectly willing to do grunt cable laying and all that kinds of good stuff.
Yes, Erek, your application has been received and processed. Unfortunately, there is little need for repairing the computer infrastructure here in NYC. But there is other vital work to be done, so you have been reassigned.
You will be instructed to report to a midtown Manhattan apartment to assist with various infrastructure improvement duties, such as garment sanitization, food preparation device cleansing, and micro-debris capture and disposal. Please come equipt with apropriate work gear (laundry detergent, Brillo pads and a vaccuum cleaner).
We NYers thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your selfless efforts on our behalf. You’re doing God’s work.
I dunno how much help they need with digging, but I have just been informed that FEMA is looking for people with 2+ years experience with GIS software (preferably MapInfo).
If anyone’s interested you can get in touch with me and I’ll pass you along in the right direction.
I was asking specifically about rebuilding the computer networks for affected businesses which there is a need of and I can help with. I don’t want to help dig.
