Vonage IP phone question

I’ve recently changed jobs, and am working out of an office in my home. My employer is going to provide me with a Vonage VoIP phone as part of my office setup.

I currently have my home phone and internet service from Comcast, along with cable TV. The coax cable feeds into a combo internet/phone modem (I think eMta is the technical term, or something close). From this box all of the phones in the house are connected, as well as an internet router.

I’m assuming that if I plug my new Vonage phone into an unused router port, and don’t connect to the house phone system, that it will work.

Is there any potential conflict with the existing Comcast Digital Voice using this setup? Has anyone had a similar situation?

Vonage will provide you with setup instructions. Just follow them for installing your VoiP phone.

I’m sure I can follow the instructions, but I was wondering if having a different phone number on the same cable modem will cause conflicts.
