This is more of a MPSIMS than a GD, but with voting procedures being in flux, I thought it was worth sharing.
I’m in Ohio and we all got letters with an application for absentee voting along with dates for updating our voting info and turning them in and such. We have in-person absentee voting as well, if we want to go down to the board of elections and do it by hand. This is Ohio’s version of early voting.
I have a chronic foot injury that makes standing in line a misery but I think I’ll probably vote in person on Election day. If we can get there about 10am we can maybe miss the before-work and lunchtime crowds.
If you are in Ohio and want to check that your voting information is correct or if you have questions about the locations and procedures, please check this website:
October 9 - Deadline to register or update your information
October 2 - November 2 (6pm) - In-person absentee voting (Early voting) at your county board of elections. Hours will vary - contact your county board for details.
November 3, (Noon) - deadline for requesting an absentee ballot
I just checked my registration. I’ve been registered for over 10 years and voted in the primaries. Well, according to the web site, I am NOT REGISTERED TO VOTE. So, I’m printing a new registration form to take down to the elections office.
To be safe – DOUBLE CHECK your REGISTRATION STATUS ! ! ! !
I doublechecked and verified that I am indeed registered. I better be – I’ve signed up to be a pollworker on election day. And I’ve been reminded by several associates, most of whom are Republicans, that I can’t say or do or wear anything that shows my support for Democrats. I expect to go to a training session soon, and I assume I’ll get a list of acceptable IDs.
I hope my fellow Buckeyes will get out there and VOTE!
That link (myohiovote.com) still doesn’t work. I even tried going to google and searching. The website came up on the list but clicking still didn’t work. So I clicked on a link to a Columbus Dispatch article about the site, then clicked the link in the article. It worked, but as a redirect to the Secretary of State website posted by Enkel.
Jon Husted really doesn’t want us to know our status. <kidding!>
Well, I’m not sure what the deal is now, Ruby. The new url - myohiovote.com works for me. Basically it redirects to the link Enkel posted, which is hard to remember. Maybe your browser is preventing the redirect?
So, did the thing with early voting ever get cleared up, then? I’m planning on voting in person on voting day, just to be sure, but it’s still important information.
For anyone who may have already received an absentee ballot, I just saw a week-old item saying that the Republiccan-dominated Ohio Supreme Court has ruled that the ballot language explaining Issue 2 (redistricting commission) must be re-written because the language provided by Republican Secretary of State was misleading and slanted. Basically, they oppose this issue, which will create a bi-partisan commission to oversee redistricting. It’s a way to prevent gerrymandering. If you want to see a perfect example of a gerrymandered district, look at John Boehner’s congressional district. If you’d like to see these districts drawn more fairly and reasonably, vote Yes on Issue 2. (At least I hope they don’t change it so that you have to vote no if you want it to pass. They’ve done that before.)
Friday, November 2: 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
