Someone forwarded me a movie file (.avi format) that I can’t play; when I check Video Properties it says it uses the VP60 codec.
A few minutes in Google indicates that it appears to be a codec used mostly by gamers (?) and that it has something to do with On2 Technologies, and that VP60 is part of a family of codecs that includes VP6 and VP7.
Most of the hits for “VP60 codec” and “download” bring up sites where someone is asking “How do I download something that will let me play the VP60 codec?” or “Oh, to play that sucker you need to download the VP60 codec”, but nothing along the lines of “Download Here! VP60 codec for your platform!”
I myself am on a Mac but I have VirtualPC and could probably see enough of it to decide whether to trash it or not even if the codec only exists on Windows. Can’t find a downloadable for either platform though.
