In a recent VW Jetta Ad, two couples are coming home from a movie and arguing over whether the men cried during the film. They then get into a side-impact collision while driving through the intersection.
Is it made clear whether they ran the red light and were at fault or whether the person who broadsides them is at fault?
I wondered the same thing, but after reviewing it several times on my TiVo, it appears that the driver stops at a red light, then proceeds through after the light has turned green – making the other driver completely at fault. It’s not 100% clear that the red/green lights are the ones controlling the VW driver, though; the angle seems a bit odd to me. But I don’t think he would stop, then go, in such perfect sync with the lights unless they were his, so I think they represent his lights, and hence the other driver is at fault.
On the other commercial I’ve seen that’s part of the same series, a pickup truck backs right out of his driveway and into the path of the VW, so of course the VW driver is not at fault there.
