Waced cotton jacket rewaxing?

Mods, this is kind of insignificant for GQ, so feel free to move it.

I have had a waxed cotton jacket for many years, and I’m quite fond of it, but its’ water-repellent waxing is really starting to go. I’ve looked around online, and replacements are really much pricier than I’d like. Is there any kind of company or service that will restore the waxing on the coat? I live in the Northeast US, if it matters.

Try Browning Reproofing Cream. I know that it is available at Cabela’s online. Not sure if it is available in local markets. The cream works with both oil-skinned and waxed cottons.

Well, it depends on the manufacturer, but I know Barbour will re-apply the oil/wax on the outside of their jackets for a reasonable fee. They may also be willing to restore other brands as well, though you may want to contact their US office.

Here’s their site:

Here’s another source of wax in case you want to do it yourself. This company started making clothing for the workers heading for the Alaskan gold rush, so they’ve had a few years of experience dealing with waxed cotton jackets.
