I just read the news item about the al Qaeda terrorist who was planning on killing President Bush. This information was released by a federal judge.
I’m not much for conspiracies but I find the timing of this news report…interesting. This plot allegedly occurred back in 2003. And the trial isn’t scheduled for this month. So there doesn’t appear to be any major reason why this information was publically released this week.
But the fall-out from New Orleans doesn’t appear to be fading away. Karl Rove’s in the news again. Questions are being asked about Supreme Court nominees. Gas prices aren’t coming down. We’re approaching the 2000th American casualty in Iraq. Bill Clinton’s doing public service ads on Monday Night Football. The President’s ratings are at their lowest level ever.
And suddenly the cry goes out, “Look! Over there! It’s the al Qaeda trying to kill the President! Everybody in America needs to come together as one in the face of the enemy!”
Can’t address your other points, but here in Sumter SC, gas prices have dropped .40/gal in the past six days.
You’re extraordinarily lucky. The national average for gas prices went down 16.9 cents last week. The highest drop I found was 28.7 cents in Cleveland. Sumter must have been missed in the survey. (cite)
However, if you decide to look at period a little longer than a week, you’ll see that gas prices have gone up 51.6 cents over the last month and 1.115 cents over the last year. (cite) Or if you really want to fire up the wayback machine, you could go back to the halcyon days of May 2004, when prices first crossed the two dollar mark. (cite)
Oh yeah, this plan is working out great for them. The bombshell of a story hasn’t even managed to crack the front pages of CNN or ABCNEWS, it isn’t on Drudge, nor the NYTimes front page. I have a feeling it isn’t really going to push Katrina out of our consciousness.
Seriously, do you really think anybody gives a shit that some low level flunky at Al Qaeda says that he proposed some stupid “assassinate Bush” plan that the terrorists ignored? Gee, I would never have thought they’d consider a plan to assassinate Bush!
