At the end of this week’s show, John Oliver declares his goals for the show to have been met, and says “goodbye.” He then packs a box with all his favorite props and the staff starts tearing down the set. He declares the whole thing to be over.
I’m pretty sure it was a joke. I mean, it had to be a joke, right?
Somebody tell me that this was just a joke, please?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it’s true. John Oliver really is British.

Did you watch the prior show? Apparently the joke was that by

…he had achieved his goals for the show, and was quitting.

(Chlamydia really is a serious problem among koalas, by the way.)

Well according to Wikipedia it’s going to keep running. So it seems safe to say it was a joke:

It also says there are 20 more episodes in this season.

I just saw the episode. And I have to say, I did not think he had it in him to counter prank Oliver so well. As Oliver said, “Well played, sir. Well played.”

It’s a joke.

I was pretty sure it was a joke, but I checked just to make sure. Yeah, he’s already signed through 2020. Props to Crowe, that was f’n hilarious. Especially the smoking mascot expiring as the credits rolled. The only thing missing was the Marching Band for when they get Trump and the Catheter Cowboy.

You’d think that’d be the time to drop the WE DID IT! balloons for real.

I don’t like Russell Crowe, but when that Koala Chlamydia ward sign came on my screen, I laughed so hard I cried. That was an excellent piece of comedy, a genius-level trolling. It’s amazing to me that someone I dislike so much made my single favorite bit on one of my favorite shows. It was perfection.

I agree that it was an amazing gag. Such a dry backhanded honour, hand delivered through a painfully earnest charity. Pretending that it means the end of his show was a funny way to acknowledge how pwned he got.

Loved it and it is obviously a joke.

I figured it was a joke, but I did have to go check to make sure that there were no headlines about a sudden falling out between Oliver and HBO.
