"Wait, it's a different guy?" moments

High up in this list.

I don’t agree with several of them, but the best match IMO is if you scroll to near the bottom: Rachel Bilson and Kaia Gerber.

Margot Robbie…not Kidder…FFS

There are probably a few who look like Margot Kidder, too. I was thinking of this:

Then there’s

Samara Weaving

I would just point out that the info in that link about Buddy Joe Hooker’s name being “Nathaniel B. Hart” is incorrect. NBH was the son of another actor John Hart, and was also a child actor–and they are completely different people. That bit of misinformation has metastasized all over the place.

But to add to the thread:

In my memory, Kathleen Freeman was the “concierge” actress in the original “The Producers.” But nope, that honor went to Madelyn Cates, who had no other roles of any note.

In the ST:TOS episode “Wolf in the Fold,” I would have sworn that Harold J. Stone was the belly dancer’s “manager.” Nope. Joseph Bernard held that honor.

In the Donny Osmond production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoad,” I thought that Glenn Shadix played Potiphar. No, again, that was Ian McNeice

I saw some film a few years ago, fairly confident it was The Prestige, where there were these two dark-haired guys whom I couldn’t distinguish until maybe 40 minutes in when my brain finally decided that they didn’t look so similar after all.

IIRC, he was her father.

Back in the day, I thought Kathleen Freeman and Loretta Swit were mother and daughter.

Note to self: Saul Rubinek and Peter Jacobson are not the same guy.

IRL there’s been a couple of times when i literally thought i was seeing someone I knew well…I even made an inside comment to one guy and only after I said it did his face morph into someone who looked greatly like him but wasnt him.

To this day, I sometimes confuse the dads of Patty/Cathy Lane and Dennis Mitchell:

This guy was in today’s episode of That Girl.

I can understand why some people confuse him with his brother.

I’ve spent the past 2 seasons of All Creatures Great and Small thinking that Samuel West, the actor playing Siegfried Farnon was the same actor who played Mr. Grove in Mr. Selfrige. He isn’t. He was in that TV series, but he played Frank Edwards, a character I don’t remember nearly as well.

I’ve seen this fellow several times over the past few years and I mistake him for Captain Tightpants every time.

So it’s a little strange, when I search on young Harrison Ford, the picture in the original post pops up a few times as actually being Harrison Ford, but the only site I can find describing it as Buddy Hart is the one you linked to….

I found this:

There are urban legends about Hart’s disappearance from the public eye, including that he became Harrison Ford; however there is no evidence for this.

These guys (may have been mentioned above- been a while since I read this thread) are not identical, but I can’t see either one without thinking of the other guy:

According to their trivia notes, they seem to share a cultural and geographic background also.

For a long time I thought the motorcycle cop that pulled Cheech and Chong over in Up in Smoke (and then asked for a bite of their hot dog because he was stoned) was Tony Dow.

It was actually actor Otto Felix.

When I first say Brecklin Meyer in something, I thought - “There’s a casting director who couldn’t get Noah Wylie!”

A lot of these are surprising to me…I don’t they look anything alike. About the only one I think is really close is Helen Hunt and LeeLee Sobieski. Maybe Lee Marvin and James Coburn – but they’re so unalike in their speech and mannerisms that I never get them confused. Most of the others have significant differences to my eyes.
