Anyone with DOD clearances must disclose any potential bribe risks. An affair is a very big one. Not doing so is a crime.
This is such bullshit. He’s a general. All generals screw around. I’m not sure I’d trust one who didn’t.
Oye, my Dad’s a general.
:eek::D.
He’s not a General. He was the Director of the CIA, and rightly or wrongly, it appears the CIA does not, in fact, trust Directors that screw around.
How would this conspiracy even work? His resignation wouldn’t have any bearing on his testimony would it; I mean, he would still be expected to testify even if he isn’t currently serving, right?
No! You’re not saying . . . . . . ? ? ?
Obama is Petraeus’s secret love-child, born in Afghanistan???
It happened when he was in Afghanistan.
Frankly, I think he should be commended for fucking outside his chain of command. Most of these guys just fool around with their own secretaries and HQ staff.
That’s one of the silliest things I’ve heard in a long time.
I’m glad another perfumed prince has bitten the dust. Petraeus has been oversold to a public and media desperate for good news in two losing wars. His mastery of the politics of promotion and the Beltway have made him seem far more competent than he actually is in the field. But he comes across as approachable and even ordinary soldiers warm up to him, which cannot be said of many general officers.
Now it seems he’s been caught fooling around with his journalist/biographer. My money is on her husband blowing the whistle on him, but that remains to be seen. What we do know is that he is far from the first highly placed official to be ruined by his sex drive. It is too bad his ethics were not stronger than his urge to have a silly fling.
Petraeus wrote the book on cunterinsurgency.
There might be something to that.
It appears to have been a chick fight.
I have a somewhat different question: I read that he left something like 200 personal emails to his mistress, on his computer. That doesn’t sound very smart to me-did he want to get caught?
Looks like it.
Well, his mistress was also his biographer, so the number of emails is understandable. Paula Broadwell also wrote about Petraeus’ email penchant. Apparently the guy took pride in answering every email personally, and also had a strong inclination towards mentoring. So he was kind of an email hound.
I wonder if he just annoyed too many high ranking people by forwarding too many cat pics, inspirational slogans and internet jokes.
Maybe it was all the links to hardcore Iraqi scat-porn that did it?
“My ‘surge’ was a success, the resistance has crumbled!”
Started there, but it sounds like they were still an item back in the States (or at least, she thought they were still an item). In anycase, he’s in trouble because of his job as Director, not because he was a former General.
I’m not sure sleeping with a journalist is much better. His job is to keep information secret, hers is to publish it.
Well, to give him the benefit of the doubt, his workplace was totally filled with spies.
Paula Broadwell is a major in the Army Reserve, with top secret clearance. She graduated with honors from West Point.
That still is outside his chain of command. Still doesn’t make her any less sane.
Besides all what it would do to my wife and family, the next biggest reason for me not having an affair is that I would always pick the crazy one.
This country’s puritanical streak will be our downfall yet. One of the brightest minds in military lost because of some action between the sheets? I could care less who he screws. I’m a lot more interested in defeating the terror cells that want to incinerate our cities.
After all, he was over in Afghanistan. 10’s of thousands miles away from home and the wife. Lonely. Horny. So he got him a little poontang. Big deal.
I agree with other posters that avoiding his testimony next week seems like the bigger factor.
