Actually, Florida has lots of islands and peninsulas (along the coastline) so I think we’d be better able to block off large zombie hordes than interior states. The main problem we’d have would be no more early warning systems for hurricanes. The gulf coast would still be safer because we rarely get direct hurricane hits because hurricanes can’t usually make that turn and they head toward other gulf coast states. But I’d think that the hurricanes would help get rid of some zombies, much like that tornado in The Walking Dead cut a swath between a horde or walkers.
Which kind of begs the question as to what simply keeps the zombies from walking into the surf and wandering up on your island’s beach and surprising the hell out of Gilligan and the Skipper…
Sharks, water currents, crabs … wait, why would they walk into the surf? They wouldn’t be able to smell living flesh underwater, even if they did walk into the water they’d likely get lost once they are underwater and start following some marine animals possibly out into deeper water.
Well, yes, for about two weeks or so of “show” time. Then you’re back in Walking Dead territory, aren’t you? How long was whats-his-name in the coma before he woke up?
“But not fast enough to keep a world full of resources from being used up in two weeks so that the survivors have to make stills out of plastic jugs and sticks to survive.”
