The new show starts tonight. I’ll watch it I guess.
So much hype! Makes me nervous, but I’ve set a series recording on my DVR. Keeping my fingers crossed that this is good, even if the not as good as the hype (which would be amazing).
I heard a review on NPR the other day, and the reviewer mentioned that an annoying aspect of the is that it builds tension by (once again) having people not tell others something that normal humans would mention in conversation.
I have enough of those types of shows now. I’m going to pass on this one.
Most of the reviews I have heard or read said the show sufferers because the characters have very rational reactions to the events around them but because we the audience know better it just makes them all look dumb. Still going to watch though.
The pics of the zombies in this show do not look dead or decayed, they look like people with white glazed eyes and blood and gore around the mouth.
How the hell did so many people get bitten initially? I don’t care if if you are a sick person or a zombie, you’d think people would run or beat off anyone coming at them like that.
“Don’t worry dear she just has super ebola, let her nibble your face!”
Whatever the first cause, many people were affected at the same time.
The reviews I read make that sound like one of the pluses.
I’m going to spoiler this because it’s part of The Walking Dead:
Everyone is infected with the zombie disease. Whoever dies, they always resurrect as a zombie. You don’t need to get bitten, although that’s what people thought early on. And the longer they’re in that state, the more decomposed they look.
The trailer makes it seem like the initial outbreak was something like influenza. I’d suspect that the virus kills millions of people on its own, with bites as a secondary vector. And once society crumbles and LA stops getting running water, you’ll have 20 million dead people four days later.
You don’t need to be bit. However it happened, anyone who dies for any reason would rise and start attacking. I suspect this means hospitals would be the worst place to be and at the same time a place where many people will go for help which would spread things quickly.
Emphasis added. The way things are going, that should happen sometime this year.
A very good plot device, because it explains why there are apparently no safe areas anywhere. The virus spread, with out symptoms, so a group that thought is t was safe by isolation and defended against all walkers, would be brought down from within, as soon as anyone died for any reason.
It makes the zombie threat much worse than any of the old fashioned zombie movies.
I know that, and there will be very unlucky people caught unaware at first or mobbed eventually. I just can’t see people so clueless as to keep letting it happen though, sick or not. People would catch on FAST if we’re being rational.
I almost think for it to make sense the “zombie disease” or even an unrelated virulent flu virus kills a lot of people very quickly all over, not the whole thing starting with some natural death who rises and goes from there.
Excellent point about LA not being survivable without water and the power grid though, hmm wonder if this was on purpose(it being picked for the location).
No place is survivable with out water.
Little Rock in on the Arkansas River.
I admit I didn’t watch but a few minutes of TWD simply because I didn’t catch it at the beginning and wasn’t sure where to start. The parts I saw were interesting but since I didn’t know the characters it was hard to follow.
So here’s my question: if I never watched the original, will I be able to make sense of FOTWD if I start now? I like “virus” stories at least the pilot looks intriguing.
Places it rains regularly are, put some tarps on roof or barrels or buckets in gutter downspouts etc.
The best thing about the spin off, they are under no obligation to use any of the silly assed comic book plots. So if they can pull together some decent writers this show actually has potential.
We can only hope and pray …
If it rains regularly, then there is water. Sort of how the Los Angeles River has water in it.
Good luck with that.
