Rather than bumping this thread, I figured I’d start a new one to commemorate the film’s opening in the US.
I just got back from seeing this and absolutely loved it. I’m not sure why I was was worried about how well the concept would work in feature-length; it seemed as natural to me as anything. And I’ll grant that it’s been a while since I’ve watched the shorts, but it seems to me that the verbal and visual punnery in Were-Rabbit topped any of the previous W&G films.
Alright…so, have I mentioned I loved it? Who else has seen it? What’d you think of it?
And I also figured out the second, but didn’t see the first coming! It’s very rare, even for a movie I’ve enjoyed, that I’d consider going to see it a second time in the theater, but this might be a rare exception.
Saw it and loved it. I’ve seen this and Corpse Bride, and this totally blows CB out of the water. It was warm, funny, you got the feeling that the makers really loved the characters and what they were doing. Corpse was a corporate “look what we can do” film, and W&G was a fun family film for all ages. Tons of jokes for everyone, I’d never seen the show, and now I want more.
Yeah, the theater on Third Avenue and 11th Street, Manhattan, was jammed.
15-year-old Pianola had to point out the “Pen 15” joke to me, afterward (it was what was written on the chute-drawer that Gromit shovelled the sliced carrots down.)
Just got back from seeing it. I was surprised that I didn’t laugh during the movie, not as funny as I’d hoped, yet it was gripping to see what would happen.
The best part, for me, was the first bunny that got caught kept trying to punch them and couldn’t reach. Thats not a spoiler, I hope.
It was great. Little Miss Winterbottom, age 5, yelled out “Good one, Gromit!” when he dressed Quartermaine in a bunny suit and “Fly up high, Gromit!” during the dogfight. (I’ve never seen her so caught up in a show that she shouts at the characters.)
It was a great night out. We hope the box office returns for the weekend are good.
Just great. 10 out of 10. I loved it. I’m going to see it again and again. It was much better than Cats.
Favorite gags were the lightning going off every time they said “bullet,” and of course “May contain nuts.” And plenty more but if I get started I won’t be able to stop.
I didn’t think they could hold up the feel of the shorts for the whole 90 minutes, either, but they sure did. I’d say I liked it almost as much as “The Wrong Trousers.” Which I have to go buy now.
The Madagascar short was really funny as well – I pretty much ignored the movie when it came out, but now I wonder if it was worth seeing.
I wasn’t really planning to see this movie, and I’ve never seen any Wallace & Gromit shorts, so I thought it wouldn’t hurt to check out the thread. I am laughing so hard at the quotes and comments. Out of context, this movie is hysterical.
“May contain nuts” – I have no idea why it’s so funny, but it is.
But nothing compares to MaxTheVool’s two spoilers.
Now I may have to see this movie just to figure out
Why the dogs needed coins, and what the heck a rabbit vacuum is
I enjoyed the movie, but both my wife and I found it slow to develop, and were a bit bored for the first half of the movie. Judging from my four year old son’s fidgeting until the second half, I’d say the same was true for him.
Still worth a look, especially once it gets rolling.
