Walmart, Xbox, and Black Friday

I have a dead xbox 360. The leaked Black Friday ad for Walmart shows a 4gb xbox + kinect for $200…that’s 30% off. *

Anyone camped out at Walmart for black friday? How early did you get there? How on earth do they handle it in a store that’s open 24/7?

That $200 level seems to be the price to beat. Anyone got a similar deal that wouldn’t require me to pull an all-nighter?

  • = I’ve pretty well exhausted the other avenues for purchase/repair. I’ll be getting this particular model and hacking a hard disk for storage.

I believe for Walmart you line up in the department you want an item from, not in front of the store (since their stampede incident a few years ago).
The Xbox 360 you want is actually $150 for Price comparison purchases - it comes with a $50 Walmart gift card as well. If you line up for it, it will be an all day-er, not an all nighter - walmart starts selling their “Black Friday” deals at 10pm Thanksgiving day this year.

I predict 5 year from now, Black Friday will actually be on the previous Tuesday.

(Course, TigerDirect.com has a good 30-40 Black Fridays a year.)

Walmart does Black Friday by staggering price drops. As mentioned above, this year it starts at 10 pm Thursday with some departments doing Black Friday pricing. Others, including Electronics I think, begin Black Friday pricing at Midnight.

Amazon is going to have a special deal this afternoon (it starts at 2PM my time, in about 2 hours) for a Xbox 360 Kinect bundle with $100 credit. The exact price won’t be announced til then, but I’m going to wager that it will be quite good.

Click on their “Black Friday Countdown” logo on their home page to get to it.

Wal-Mart is starting theirs on Thanksgiving Day this year, I believe.

Damn: how did I miss the previous post?

A little digging turned up this swell deal as well. Best Buy’s leaked Black Friday flyer has a Xbox360 250 GB model with headset, Fable III, and Halo games included for $199.

My Black Friday advice: if at all possible, find some out-of-the-way small town Walmart.

A few years back, I was visiting family for Thanksgiving. I was driving home on Friday. I don’t normally do Black Friday sales but they were selling a portable DVD player I wanted for a really good price so I figured I’d give it a shot.

I stopped first at the Walmart in Plattsburgh, NY. It was so packed I couldn’t even see an open space in the parking lot. So I figured no DVD player and headed out. But on the drive south I detoured through Ticonderoga, which while a small town has a Walmart. And I found this Walmart did not have a major crowd. I was able to park and go inside and they had a whole display full of the DVD players I wanted.

Since then, I found this remains true. If it’s Black Friday, avoid the Walmarts in Buffalo or Rochester. But go to the Walmart in Albion or Warsaw and they’ll have the same items for sale without the crowds.

Well, the Amazon deal is all gone now, they only had a limited number. Sounds like the Walmart or the Best Buy Black Friday deals would be of more interest to you anyway, though.

Update: Looks like Gamestop will have Xbox 360 4GB for $149.99 for Black Friday.

Yeah, that’s not the one with the Kinect, though…I figure if I’m going through the hassle of staying with the console, I want to add all the bells and whistles. Even if I only end up using it with Forza Motorsport 4.

Here’s the Kinect one at Toys R Us, Black Friday special:

$199 for Xbox 360 4GB Kinect Bundle with $10 gift card

(Sounds like the Walmart one is a better deal, but maybe if that deal turns out to be hard to get, this could be a backup plan.)

Are you sure you want 4GB? I guess it depends on how much and what you play though. I have a 4GB xbox 360 that has had the hard drive switched out with my boyfriend’s original (white) xbox. His red-ringed this past summer, but the hard drive has been doing fine on mine.

Plus the Wally world one is the day before!

Toys R Us deal starts at 9PM Thursday night as well. (it runs til 11PM on Friday night, but as to whether there’d still be any left by then is anyone’s guess.)

Yeah, I still have the old disk, but I’d also like to hack a WD Green drive…it’s either significantly cheaper than what Microsoft charges, or MUCH larger. Best price I’ve seen on a system with the drive, and Kinect, is $400.

Looks like Radio Shack will also be selling the 4GB Kinect bundle for $199 (no gift card or other special goodies though)

However, it seems to me that Radio Shack would not be the first place I’d think of on Black Friday if I wanted to go buy an Xbox. Doors there open at 5:30AM, so no goofy Thursday night antics. Probably not as many crazed shoppers.
