Wanna talk college football?

Thanks for beating Ole Miss.

Ahhh, does anyone else feel that? The wonderful feeling of all being right with the universe?

Michigan is back in the driver’s seat for the Big ten championship and the Rose Bowl(by the way, thank’s Spartan’s :))

So any Buckeyes out there? What’s your take on the Clarette shitstorm? You think you guys are gonna spanked at all?

If there is any truth to what he has said, and I think that there is, than they need to get the death penalty. This is the exact same stuff that SMU did when they got killed. It also shows, once again, what is wrong with big time college sports.

The Auburn Tigers were so pumped today for their last game at Jordan-Hare this season. What a great blow out for the seniors!

John, did I ever tell you that I come from a long line of Southern Jordans? (Prounounced that way too.) I have to find a connection to Sug there somewhere.

I think our history vs Georgia goes back 108 years and we are one point up on them! If John Carter of Mars is still living in Auburn, he’s probably down on the corner celebrating.

Then there’s that little bit of unfinished business next weekend…

WAR EAGLE!

This Notre Dame team is so frustrating to watch…have been in the top 25 twice, have proceeded to lose both games. Beaten Tennessee and Michigan, lost to BYU, BC and Pitt by 7 points combined. They’ll lose to USC in two weeks, finishing 6-5.

9-2 was so close…

Finally Michigan State has a great game. Woo-hoo! Two- count them two- drives of 99 yards , yes 99! A great goal line stand. Recover an onsides kick to open the second half. And this against a team that kicked the snot out of us in Madison last year. Whoever snags the 1 and 2 spots may have the Spartans to thank this year.

Thanks to the Spartys, it looks like my Bears will be seeing Michigan in the Rose Bowl. I’m not sure which I’d prefer; Wisconsin’s defense was kinda scary, but I don’t know much about Michigan.

I do know that it’ll be blue & gold (or maize) everywhere.

Question:

Teams finishing in the top 6 in BCS rankings are guaranteed a bid in a BCS bowl, correct?

What happens if Cal, Utah, and Texas finish 4th, 5th, and 6th in the BCS, assuming that the Trojans and Sooners win out? The BCS would then have 6 conference champions and 3 at-large teams all with guaranteed bids for 8 bowl spots.

Only a non-BCS conference team is guaranteed a BCS bowl for finishing in the top six. BCS conference teams are only guaranteed BCS bowls if they win their conference or finish in the top two. If they were ever more teams with guaranteed bids than bids available, the bowls get to select which teams they want.

Dagnabbit, where’s the potential for controversy in that?

I’d imagine, then, that if Utah finishes in the top 6 that Texas is screwed, since the Rose Bowl will want to grab Cal? Or will the Rose Bowl be picking the last team, and might be obligated to take Utah if Texas is picked by the Fiesta or Sugar?

Rose bowl still goes to pac-10 champ and big ten champ, unless it’s hosting the championship game, or on of those two teams is in the championship game, so it’ll be Mich, (assuming a win next week, else Wisconsin by tiebreaker), and their choice. Since it looks like USC will be in champ game, but they will most likely take Cal to keep Big-10/pac-10 tradition going.

Parsing my trainwreck of an attempt at the English language is an exercise left to the reader. :smack:

Kid A, as a Notre Dame fan, assuming the Irish lose to Southern Cal, do you think the Irish should accept a bowl bid? I think they should, and that the bowl game in Detroit against the MAC champion would be a good fit. Not a good game, because I hope the Irish will thrash Toledo or whoever they play, but playing in Detroit would allow a lot of midwest Irish fans to go to a bowl game without having to spend the holidays in Shreverport or Boise or Memphis. I went to the bowl game two years ago when BC beat Toledo and had a good time, and Ford Field is a great place to watch a game.

Yale beat Princeton yesterday, but Harvard beat Penn 31-10, so I’m concerned that Yale might have a hard time handing Harvard’s hat to it next weekend, during the Big Game.

…What?

For those who are confused by the preceding, “Harvard” is a school on the east coast widely known academically as “the Michigan of the east”, and apparently seems to have played football at one point.

So, the “Big Game” will feature the Michigan of the East and Yale, aka the Vanderbilt of the North. WhatEVAH!

War Eagle right back at ya’, Zoe! I’m about 35 miles from Auburn. If we beat Bama next weekend, you can bet I’ll be packin’ up a 12-pack of toilet paper and headin’ for Toomer’s Corner. Beating Alabama is a long way from a done deal. They’ve been playing hard, for 60 minutes. With a little luck they could have beaten both Tennessee and LSU. This one’s never easy anyway. Still, Auburn is 6-0 in Tuscaloosa so maybe that trend will hold.
I’m convinced this is the best Auburn team I’ve seen. The '57 bunch was before my time as an Auburn fan, but this team is better than any I’ve seen.

BCS rankings: What say the teeming millions? I don’t remember there ever being three teams from major conferences finishing their seasons with a perfect record. Southern Cal, Oklahoma and Auburn all could do so. It’s my guess that one or more of them will slip between now and December 4th. If not, there will once again be a clamor for a playoff system.

For my part, should Auburn win out and be shut out of the national championship game but still win the Sugar Bowl, I’ll laugh all the way through the winter and cuss the BCS with a smirk on my face. 13-0 ain’t bad, Natn’l Champ trophy or not.

Home computer’s blown up so I won’t be able to post again until work tomorrow.

I’m not much into football, but it sure was fun when LSU was winning last year! And umm… that’s all I have to say. Geaux Tigers.

Hey! I just got back from watching my Auburn Tigers win the SEC Championship in Atlanta. What a great scene it was after the game. The players came up into the stands with the Auburn fans. Everybody waved shakers and flags and danced while the Auburn band played “Louie, Louie” for over half an hour. Hardly any Auburn people left until 30 or 40 minutes after the game was over.

It was a great scene, what college football is all about.

Now, I know those dudes that do Sports Center were there, because I watched them do part of their show that afternoon in front of the Georgia Dome. Then they come on TV tonight and talk about a “subdued celebration” because of the BCS thing. If they had hung around after the game and watched, they would have known that the celebration was anything but subdued.

Auburn is 12-0 already. If they can beat a tough Virginia Tech team in the Sugar Bowl, that will conclude the best season in Auburn history.

BCS? Sure it would have been nice to play in it, but the rules were in place before the season started and the chips didn’t fall Auburn’s way to be in that game. Not so big a deal, that.

Good luck to Oklahoma and Southern Cal in the Orange Bowl, and may the best team win.

Me, I hope I’m celebratin’ down in the French Quarter late into the night of January 3rd and on into the morning of January 4th.

WAR EAGLE!

How nice for you, John Carter. Your generosity of spirit does you credit.

Me, I’m still fuming over the royal screwing my Bears got by the BCS. And speaking of ESPN, how Bob Davie couldn’t shut up about how unimpressive the Bears looked against So Miss; and how they showed the 7 Texas fans there more than they showed the 1000 Cal fans there; and how J.J. Arrington is the best running back in the country (look it up) but Cedric Benson and Adrian Peterson are getting all the Heisman hype. And how my Rose Bowl reservations are now worthless, and I have to start working on Holiday Bowl arrangements.

Argh.

John Carter of Mars, your QB almost singlehandedly won that game for you. I’m just happy (and, frankly, a little shocked) that the Vols were able to comport themselves like a real football team and make the game interesting.

Personally, I think y’all should be playing for the championship. But I don’t have a vote. So, congratulations on the excellent season. I’ll be rooting for y’all in the Sugar Bowl. We’ll get you next year.

Oh, and Auburn has the best marching band in the SEC, hands down.
