Wanna talk college football?

What did you expect, vibrotronica? A repeat of Oct. 2nd? Not likely. Nobody wins nine games like Tennessee did this year without having a very good team. I think the Auburn fans, coaches and players went to Atlanta expecting a dog-fight, and that’s exactly what it was. Great game!

jsc1953: I thought I understood how the BCS bowl selection works, but I guess I don’t. I thought the Rose Bowl was going to get to pick between Texas and California, and of course they’d pick Cal.

I’ll have to study more, because it was my thought that the six conference champions were guaranteed a BCS slot, and Utah was this year too, because they were in the top six. That left one slot and I thought the Rose Bowl had their choice. Instead the Rose Bowl was required to take Texas. Shows what I know. :smack:

Trust me, I’ve learned more about the BCS selection process than I ever wanted to know.

It’s got 3 priorities, sometimes conflicting, to fill its 8 bowl slots:

  1. Guaranteed slots to the champs of the 6 “BCS” conferences (Pac-10, Big 10, Big XII, SEC, Big East, ACC). That leaves 2 “at large” positions to fill.

  2. If a non-BCS-conference team makes the top 6, they’re guaranteed a spot.

  3. If a BCS conference team finishes in the top 4 (without winning their conference) they’re guaranteed a spot.

So Utah got in under rule #2, and Texas got in under rule #3. That leaves Cal out in the cold.
