o Fixed bug that made all targeted toggle powers (Radiation Infection, Enervating Field, Darkest Night, Snow Storm, Telekinesis) have no effect.

Wow, that makes quite a difference. I’m used to leaving SS on while I fight – I better get used to toggling it off. It does make sense, though – Fly has had a ToHit debuff since launch.

Doesn’t mean I like the idea, though – I’d rather have no ToHit debuff on any travel power, but that’s just me.

It’s Test, folks. Test. Many, many changes are not going to go through as planned, if at all. It’s happened many times already, where proposed changes are thoroughly shot down, a recent example being Instant Healing and Integration being non-mutual. SS used to have a massive Acc penalty, then a massive Def penalty. Both were revoked, and as the changes to SS and SJ are to affect PVP, but are not effective in doing so, it is extremely likely that the changes will be revoked, and possibly a new, but far lesser detriment put in place. I4 has at least 1, probably 2 good months left of being on Test server. Expect nothing to be in stone by the time it hits release form except for obvious bug fixes and the like.

Which is the reason for my using the question mark. I should have said “possibly” when I posted the previous list but there you go.

Umm… I4 is scheduled to go through any day now. While some of these may not turn up in I4, most of them will be there. Very doubtful it will remain only on the test server. It makes perfect sense that all travel powers have a to hit and and accuracy debuff. Otherwise, they’ll be abused.

Issue 4 is no where close to being ready. It could be at least two more months before we get it. There are still all sorts of problems in the arena code, and since that’s the big thing this issue…

Just 1 day ago they made a bunch of changes, and the devs typically like 1 to 2 weeks just for testing and feedback, then they try another change and get that out a week later, etc. Many Arena powers are still very broken, either in pure…brokenness, or balance. Many PVE things are being extremely fought against by the community and requires major testing.

Yes, there is a stupid May-based accolade Celebrant for logging in. Even if they put I4 on Live on May 30th, there’s going to be a lot of broken powers and terrible server stability needing a few weeks of patches.

Heck, most costumes (not to mention body sliders) are very broken, still. Many new pants clash with your legs, either making parts of your body entirely transparent, or your leg will poke out the back of the pants. The motorcycle jacket option detaches your neck from your body if you do anything other than stand still.

I really, really can’t see the pile of bugs as ready for release. And yes, I’ve been around for all the previous issue releases. Seems they want this one smoother than the other releases. I would imagine they’d just make Celebrant work for whatever month I4 is released in, or release Celebrant itself separately onto Live only. Or just check the logs and reward it later depending on if a character was played in May.

Heck, they want to stop spawn camping in Arena. Nothing’s been put on Test yet for that. They want to prevent small matches from starting up on the huge maps, which they’ve only done vice versa. They haven’t tested badge-awarding tournaments yet, which definitely must be done before it goes Live, as that could easily go awry. They can’t even award badges for matches until they fix spawn camping and map sizes, let alone power/AT/Hamidon enhancement balancing.

The state it’s in had better darn well not be ready for release.

This just in! Cryptic is giving everyone a free respec in honor of the game’s anniversary!

I’m not kidding, it’s going live tomorrow (the 29[sup]th[/sup])!

link for the above

I’m very happy about this, I’ll be able to drop some unneeded powers from my early toons so they can get Stamina instead and not have to run a respec trial.

OK, so I stopped playing for long time while my computer was busted, so now I’m back. Apparantly my old characters now have a free respec. How do I use this? I never had one high enough to do the terra volta missions before, so I have no idea what to do with it. And they say this free one on the 29th will replace any holiday ones…are those free ones the holoday one, or are they something different?

bouv, the ones you have now are the Holiday respecs. You can visit Jack Wolf in the main building in Galaxy City to respec, or stand somewhere (safe) and type /respec. It explains what you do from there.

Yeah, they issued everyone a free respec in December when I3 was released. You access it by typing /respec in the chat line.

What it does is remove all your powers and dumps all slotted enhancements into a bin. You then rebuild your character from your chosen primary and secondary powers along with any pool powers and reslot them. Any leftover enhancements get sold.

OK, cool. For some reason I had the impression it couldn’t be used until level 20. Of course, I don’t think any of the characters I play need a respec. I know my ice blaster doesn’t, cause I just checked, and my energy blaster…maybe. Flying isn’t as great as I thought it was…but superspeed, while faster, limits my ability to go up…maybe great leap? Never used it before, so I don’t know if it will be good. Oh well.

Copy your character to the test server, bouv. Then use the respec three or five times. See how different changes make you feel.

I only have three toons high enough to take a travel power. Two have Super Jump and one flies. Flight will get better with enhancements, three 'em will get it close to the game’s maximum speed. Super Jump is great but takes a bit of practice to avoid landing in the middle of a group of baddies. Sometimes I like to take one of my SJ tanks up a skyscraper and jump from roof to roof, seeing how far he can get before he has to return to the street. I’m still trying to get them to jump from the roof of Paragon City Hall to the top of Atlas; some higher enhancements should do it.

I copy a character to the test server how, exactly? I have the test server loader (cause I awnted to try out issue 4, mostly for the new costume choices) so I’ve done half of whast I need to do. Is it just a metter of copying a profile or a file?

Too bas a respec can’t let you change the power pool you choose. My current most played character (level 14 blaster) is ok, but I have found out I’m not a huge afn of devices. Although by not takign a lot of powers from my secondary, I leave myself open to take more power pools, so I don’t have to sacrifice good powers just to waste them on leaping and health to get stamina, .

There’s instructions on the CoH boards somewhere. I’ll try to find them for you.

It does let you change power pools, you just can’t change your primary and secondary sets.

For bouv and anyone else who wants to try things out on the Test server, instructions on setting up the test client can be found here.

The Character Copy Tool can be found here. Use your game login and password, and it allows you to copy up to eight characters to the Training Room. You can make multiple copies of your characters–additional copies, or characters that have a name matching one already on the server, have a number appended to their names. Your enhancements (both slotted and inventory) and your inspirations transfer over, but your influence does not. Copying over with a full tray of enhancements will give you something to sell to scrap up some starting cash; if you have someone willing to “mule” for you, you can log on with a succession of copies and sell the same enhancements repeatedly and build up cash on the other character.

On using the free respec: I suggest holding off until I4 is released, so you can see what changes are made to powers–some of the tentative changes currently being tested could have a significant effect on your playstyle, and you may want to rearrange powers and slots to compensate. In the meantime, you can always try things out on Test. Take the Test changes with a grain of salt, however, as they can change at any time.

!

I realize it may not suit your playstyle or character concept… but /Devices is far and away the best of the Blaster secondaries. Some of the early powers are kind of crappy (Web Grenade is okay, Caltrops is situationally very good but I don’t like having to target my effect with the mouse, Taser blows), but the later ones are very good.

And while Health may be a wasted power, Hurdle is not – it’s actually one of the better early travel powers, as it adds both height and distance when leaping, so if you bunny-hop while traveling, you get additional speed.

Au contraire! Web grenade is okay when it works (it seems to be very inaccurate, given my targetting drone is max slotted with SO accuracy enhancements), caltrops are good as a buffer (but some mobs seem to respond to them with *insane * aggro), but taser…taser is my little buddy. There’s always one mob that will try and peel off and attack my blaster, and if it gets within melee range it gets a quick jab to the nuts with the taser. That generally fixes its little red wagon. I *love * my taser. Plus, it’s accurate 97% of the time according to my Hero Stats program, which makes it a lot handier in my book than web grenade for keeping critters from beating my character into blaster paste.

Trip mines are brilliant if you have max-slotted Hasten, but otherwise they’re really slow to lay. It is nice being able to sneak (using my device concealment) up to a bundle of white-con mobs and lay a trip mine at their feet. If in doubt I target them for an AE blast immediately after laying the mine - the combination of both blasts pretty much tends to destroy most - if not all - the nearby mobs.

So far I am massively underwhelmed with Time Bomb. Anyone else used it who can tell me if it gets better?
