Wanted! City of Heroes Players!

Au contraire. I find that Cumbustion + Taunt will keep whites and yellows in the burn zone long enough to do them in.

I think you’re the only one then, and I’m not saying that in a rude sense or anything, just factual. Since Issue 4, Burn was tweaked so that Taunt, Provoke, punchvoke, and taunt auras, all combined, could not keep enemies in the Burn patch…I mean, I’ve watched guys on the street in Peregrine try it to literally no avail. There’re quite a few people quitting the game over this issue, but absolutely nothing but status effects are supposed to keep enemies in the Burn patch, and then it’s not by their own volition. Unless you were fighting Vahzilok or Banished Pantheon zombies who were too slow to escape the Burn patch, you may be subject to some weird sort of bug. That or Combusion is killing them, and Burn’s few tics for while they are escaping is just a bit of icing on the cake.

Like I said, it’s not fool-proof. I think the trick is to get them mad at you before you hit burn. If you don’t, then they’ll run like chickens.

Well, it took almost nine hours (yes, nine), but some fellow heroes and I FINALLY finished Positron’s task farce. Thank God I at least got an SO I can use. We started with 8, and ended with just five, and of those five, no defenders or even a controller w/ empathy. Just an illusion/rad controller, two fire tanks, a scrapper, and a blaster. We had that combo for the last fout or five missions. Good thing we had all leveled at least once, if not twice, by then.

Feh. A couple of weeks ago, d_odds, Mrs. odds, Brainiac4, Dangerosa, Pleonast, Balanced, and I did Posi with three controllers, two scrappers, and two defenders.

Okay, so we died in the beginning. Okay, so we died a lot in the beginning.

Okay, so the entire taskforce involved me paying off my debt, and then having to run, so I missed clearing a space for my reward.

Want to make something of it?

…aren’t you all well past Posi’s range? I thought Brainiac4 was like…level 72, or something.

And you never got the SO? Ouch. We all reminded each other multiple times during the last mission to ALWAYS have an enhancement slot free.

Thermocline is 43, and Super-Collider is 33, but I was playing Scraptacular, my Katana/Invulnerability scrapper. He was 11 at the start, and was not much of an asset. Once he hit 12 and got Dual Origin enhancements, he stopped sucking wind.

bouv, are you forgetting the wonders of the alt happy! There’s like eight character slots on each server. Not having at least five characters going at a time seems like a waste.

Oh, I know about alts. I am very alt happy. i ahve all eight on virtue filled up, though I am currently playing just three of them.

I have a few alts myself. 48 at last count, including the unique ones on the test server. And I am seriously tempted by the 21 day demo on DVD that came in CGW this month. My notebook has a DVD drive. But do I really need 2 accounts?

Lok

It didn’t help that my son started thowing up during the last mission, so I ran a away from the computer for five minutes that turned into five hours.

So Gassius Clay has come out of retirement on the Guardian server, and I’m grinding my way up to 50. I have some more questions…[ul][]I was given a free respec when I reconnected for the first time in ten months. I did /respec and juggled some powers around. However, I’m nearly certain that I didn’t get to pick as many powers as I had before – my only ‘new’ power is Teleport Foe, and I didn’t pick Electron Haze, X-Ray Beam, or Mutation this time around. Did they change the levels at which powers are granted? How many powers should a level 40 player have?[]How can I get another respec? I found a contact in Founders Falls who is allegedly the level 35 respec mission, but I need four people in the group. What’s the mission like? One shot, or like a TF, or…? Can I still do it at level 40? How many respecs is it possible for someone to earn?[]What is an ‘epic power set’? I just dinged to 40 and the trainer mentioned I am now eligible for those.[]I thought players were limited to two power sets, but I’ve seen level 40 people with Leadership powers, Fitness powers, and Teleport powers. Is that ‘epic’? But since no power is granted at 40, how could they have gotten multiple powers in a third power set? Did they /respec after 40?[/ul]

Hey, lno. I’m sure someone will answer your questions before I manage to hit submit, but here I go anyway.

They didn’t change the levels at which powers are gained.

There are three Respec Trials available. They’re basically short Task Forces. Each culminates in defending the Terra Volta Reactor Core from some enemy group.

Epic Power Sets are like special additional AT-specific power pools that 40+ players can access. Think of them as a Tertiary Power Set or limited Power Pool.

As far as I know, the Power Pool limit has always been 4.

Alright, I’ve noticed this a lot since Issue 4 and I want to see if other poeopel have to, and if maybe it was befoer I4 and I jsut never noticed it:

I go into a door mission (or step off of an elevator, so a new level loads) and some of the enemies on the level are for some reason “squat walking.” They are walking across the level, but squated down with bent knees, and also going about three times as fast as their normal walk. Huh? The only explaination I can think of is that the my charactaer is loaded into the level before the enemies are loaded into their proper place, and thagt is the “fix” for it. Looks VERY stupid, like all the Skulls and Outcasts are playing leapfrog.

Oh, and I do not like surpise timed missions. Got a mission to kill 20 outcast, was gonig to do it quickly, then log off. Well, BAM, as son as I finished had 75 minutes to stop an auction for magic relics. Though it was cool to be in a door missino with CoT, Outcasts, Hellions, and Tsoo, all playing nicely together…to kill me. And the relics I found gave me neat temp. powers. (Although I found it odd that they are too dangrous for them to use but I can use them just fine? Even though it said one use and it’s dead? Was my contact pissed off that I ruined the very relic I wetn in to sve?)

Yeah, it’s a bug with enemies not being where they’re supposed to be. Report it when you see it, via the /bug command.

Personally, it reminds me of West Side Story.

“I want to live in Par-a-gon…”

Yeah, surprise timed missions suck. I think they at least hint at that one in the description though - it pays to read carefully.

Ok. I’ve got to get through one of those respec missions tonight. I’ve suffered without Stamina for far too long, and enough is enough. About how long are they? 3-5 missions, or so? How difficult is defending the TV reactor?

The low level one (23-33 or so) is the only one I’ve done. I imagine the others are similar, but I can’t be certain. It was :

  • Go talk to a guy in Terra Volta
  • Beat up 25 Sky Raiders
  • Defeat Sky Raider Lieutenant and his men, in an office
  • Get to and defend the Reactor.

And it depends on your team. The enemies attack in waves; there are belts available for your team that contain reactor coolant that let you heal damage to the reactor. I’ve seen it be very difficult, and pretty darn easy. I did it as White-Russian a couple nights ago, and it was a cakewalk.

This game, as predicted, has consumed me. I got the 14-day trial and played almost non-stop, excepting sleep time, all weekend. Since I went to bed last night, I’ve been looking forward to getting back on tonight. Just found out I’m needed elsewhere tonight, and I’m totally bummed.

I plan to make level 9 soon. I’ve got two other characters at level 2, but I’m concentrating on Sky Hook for now.

I was once hit with a surprise timed mission too. I finished one mish (I think it was defeat X number of Hellions in Steel Canyon) and suddenly there was a timed mish counting down. I didn’t select it, I hadn’t gone to my contact, it was just there, and I saw no way to opt out of it. Fortunately I had no intention of logging off anyway; I was able to assemble a team and we finished the mish with almost an hour to spare.

Saltire, a lot of us do have low level alts. I was going to let you know Saturday night, but I’d committed to getting Eliza to 41 and an epic power. But I do have a Dark-Dark Defender at level 8 or so.

Also, don’t be afraid to join up with higher level characters sidekicked. ESPECIALLY if one of the party has teleport friend. Its a good way to see some of the higher level content and see how characters work after they have four powers.

Check out the COH board for build advice. Almost everyone builds their first character poorly, then lusts after the respec. The aforementioned stamina comes at 20, but only if you’ve take two other powers from the fitness pool first, so you need to plan ahead, or spend levels 20-26 swearing at yourself. Same with a travel power. You get it at 14, but only if you’ve gotten the lead in earlier.
