Wanted! City of Heroes Players!

Huh, got me. You’re looking at a yawning black hole of entropic nothingness, right?

Nope. It’s an entrance with two guards, a barbed wire fence, and a sign over it. Black between the sides of the door, but not a yawning black hole.

That’s the hole I mean. Entropic nothingness gives me the willies.

Best I can think of is A, you’re either not close enough to the guard you’re clicking on, or B, you’re not level 5 yet. But you wouldn’t have been given the mission if you weren’t eligible to enter the Hollows, so I don’t know.

I’m level 7, but I guess I’ll try being next to a guard when clicking on him. I was a bit far away when I tried initially. Well, I guess I’ll find out tonight when I boot into Windows again.

Captain Carrot, you say you’re on a trial so if you haven’t purchased the game yet, a quick tip. Any version of the game will give you access to the full game (as opposed to some MMORPGs which require you to have the latest expansion). You can often find cheaper copies of old editions of CoH (or CoV)for $10-$15. Considering that they come with a free month of game play (a $15 value), you’re essentially getting the game for free.

Heck, I’ve actually gone back and purchased old editions for under $15, thus getting myself a month of game play plus whatever freebies that edition offered. Just got an old (new) copy of the City of Villains DVD Collector’s Edition today for $13 after shipping including the in game goodies, an art book, bunch of HeroClix figurines and other stuff. Sadly, that’s all sold out.

Sometimes you need to move the mouse around quite a bit before the arrow becomes a hand.

Sometimes, they want a foot massage.

Well, I got to The Hollows, and now I’m working on rescuing the police from a Troll building. Except that I’ve been killed twice by a group of level 10 Trolls, partially due to lag and partially due to that I think they repeatedly stun me. Any ideas?

In the mission, or outside of it?

The Hollows is deadly dangerous to walk around in.

It’s gotten better since the revamp last year, but it’s still pretty tough. Stick to the streets, you’ll get around most enemies.

ETA: Oh, Carrot, also, go to Kings Row, find the detective that’s automatically added to your contact list to get a radio, run through three radio missions, then do the bank job. It’s very easy, only takes about an hour to do all of it, and when you stop the bank robbers you’ll receive a jetpack with a 3 hour flight time. It helps immensely, especially in the Hollows.

Plus, flying is great fun, even with the relatively slow Raptor Pack you get from the Safeguard mission.

And a note to Captain Carrot; that mission is only available until level 10 ( unless you team with someone of that level range later ); after that you get a different mission and power. The next being the temp power Zero G Pack that allows superjumping. Every 5 levels it’s a different mission, and a different power.

In the mission. Strangely enough, the captive cop (2/5) ran away upon my arrival. I guess my distraction was enough for her to escape, though the Trolls were all still there.

On the subject of dangerous stuff in the Hollows, I was running around quite a lot trying to find the Four Seasons neighborhood, for Mina’s mission, and I came across two level 14 bosses. Fortunately, I identified them well before they noticed me, and booked before they had a chance to.

That seems unusual. The main benefit of City’s instanced missions is that the level of the enemies is extremely controllable. There’s no real reason you should have encountered level 10 enemies inside a mission unless you’re level 9-11.

Spawns ***have ***been a little buggy recently. For example, there’s an earlier Sky Raider mission that recently always seems to spawn multiple Jump Bot bosses even while solo.

I’m level 9 now. Quite frankly, I don’t understand why even four or five level 10 minion Trolls should be giving me so much trouble. I’d rescued cops in that mission before.

Well, I have the police radio, and I did a mission, but there’s no bank job available. Should I just keep taking missions until it shows up, or what?

You need to do three radio missions (in the same zone) before getting a bank mission.

Ahhhh. That makes sense, I guess. Although given that I’m fairly close to level 10 as it is, should I go back and try again once I level, or will the jetpack help a lot?

It certainly does help because you won’t have access to a full travel power for two more levels, assuming you took the prereq already. You could wait and get the Jump pack but with flight there’s no worry of landing in the middle of a ring of mobs.

In the options somewhere there should be a toggle to turn off XP gains. You can shut XP off, get the Atlas Park bank mish, then turn XP back on and continue on your way. Jetpacks are just so useful, you don’t want to pass it up if you can help it.
